im sad

Post by aura20 » Wed Oct 29, 2003 7:08 pm

 no one has watched my AMV, no one has left an opinion, and i feel like i did it for nothing. i havent met anyone here anyway. my friends might have watched it but its too bad that you have to wait 2 weeks after joining to download, isnt it? in 2 weeks they would have forgotten. i give up on making AMVs. im not even going to submit my 2nd one (the first five attempts at uploading failed, anyway). now they wont even let me put an advertisement for my video in my signature..........

Is this a hoax? If it's not, let me impart this little tidbit of knowledge from the late John Wayne: "Life's tough; it's a hell of alot tougher if your stupid."

The point is, there are plenty of ways to get word of your video out. Try that chat for starters, but don't spam it, it will just get you hated. Second: try the AMV ANOUNCEMENT forum. Third: try op exchanging people (Hint: It WORKS in getting people to watch your vid).

Assuming that was not a hoax,

This is a very commonly stressed concept on the .ORG but nonetheless, please try and not worry about whether or not people will watch your videos. Seriously, focus on the material that you're working with, try to improve your skills and just enjoy the creative process. Believe me, it has its own rewards. Don't try too hard to control other peoples' opinions on your video, you won't have much luck anyway. If your videos are good enough then you'll have a better chance at having a large audience. Don't give up. And if you want reviews, announce a review exchange on the opinions forum.

Do you like it though. That is what is important.

I just watched it myself. I'm not a fan of subtitles in the video and the scene selection was off but whose first video was perfect besides Koop's? JK Koop

Anyways you have room for improvement and don't forget to make these for yourself otherwise every video you force yourself to make will leave you with an empty feeling.

Then why would you give up making amv's if you enjoy making and watching them?

Maybe you should take a closer look at the info available to you from the main site.

What I can see without digging deeper than the link in your sig, is that you've had 125 hits on your vid's page.I suspect that means 80 or more downloads.

If you login to the main site, and click Edit My Videos from the member menu, you will be able to see the # of hits, # of downloads, and both the number of people who have star rated your vid, and the average of those star ratings.

That will provide you with at least some info for a start. As for opinions, don't take it personally if you don't have any yet. The latest thing I put up just about a month ago has had 323 downloads, and has gotten only one opinion. Unsolicited opinions are few and far between, and if you really want a bunch, you need to get yourself to the opinion exchange, and make some deals there to swap reviews.

I personally only noticed your video's announcement thread and downloaded it last night, and I've had to work all day.

Because I vaguely recalled some posts by you that seemed courteous, and like you were making a genuine effort to understand the tech stuff to make your vid as good as possible, I'd thought I would offer you a critique of your vid. The slightly whiny tone of this thread has almost made me reconsider, but I'll make the offer anyway.

I'm not very thrilled with the scoring system here, and I'd prefer to simply write stuff and send it to you as a forum PM, but the choice is yours. I work hard at writing opinions, and try to be as fair and honest as possible, but be warned: I don't hand out high scores to make people feel good.

So then: IF you want input from me, post here or PM me, and tell me which way you'd prefer that I do it. It may take a few days for me to rewatch the vid a bunch of times, and write it up.
