If this place were to shut down and reinvent itself, then maybe we could dispel this bullshit re: elitism in AMVing.
It doesn't exist and I think that major pieces of the .org -- the opinion system, top video scales, and forums -- fuel this illusion.
I think the .org in principle is a great idea -- a public catalog and download center for AMVs is necessary if we ever hope to have a way to archive and preserve this art. However I think it's become way more than it ever was intended to be -- and in this case that's a bad thing.
I for one would love to see the .org shut down, but re-open, stripped down to its bare essentials -- a video database, the Golden Donut, and maybe member journals + friend lists. Nothing else.

Trythil's idea is reasonable. Of course, there's some easy appeal in the current format, but de-centralizing everything except AMV distribution wouldn't be a bad way of combating elitism.
Personally, the way things are don't bother me, so whatever.

Hehe.
That's sort of what I meant. I mean, I wouldn't want this forum to shut down all of a sudden, but if it did, I'd have no problem finding the gang and a place to chit-chat about both AMV's and just random randomness.

How so? What's wrong with just a catalog and a download center?shinji13 wrote:and that would be lame...
You need to attend conventions where lots of AMV editors attend -- and no I don't mean just "the l33t d00dz". There's a strong sense of camaraderie that you just don't see here.
I very strongly feel that the faceless nature of communication via the .org forums and other .org feedback tools is to blame for a LOT of the shit that's been flying around the AMV community.
Now, if you can counter that, feel free. At the very least, write something a little more substantial than "that would be lame".
