I agree with Vlad. If what you want is panels, japanese guests, cosplay and a lot more to see and do...then you should go to Anime Expo. AX generally has a lot more to keep you busy than does AWA (and especially if you expect to buy a lot of stuff, AX has the larger dealer room).

Of course if you are going for AMVs, a smaller con and fan feel then I recomend AWA. AWA has a lot more to do with AMVs than any other con out there and a lot more AMV creators tend to go to it. Vlad is right, it has more of a fan feel to it, mostly I would say this is because AWA distances itself from the corporations forom Anime moreso than AX does (which is how AX gets a lot of its guests).

In the end I would seriously recomend AWA. Which I skipped a huge exam for and had to take it the exam a few hours after I got back home if that says anything.

AWA. I personally have never been to it (I stick with Aniazement, it's in my home state), but I hear good things about it and plan on going next year. I would have gone this year, but my friend wanted me to go to Nekocon, which I'm going to this Friday. :)
