You want to know what _is?_

You have a severe inferiority complex and are paranoid that you are terrible and will be hated if you ever appear to be in competition with anyone for any reason.

Get over it. You're not important enough for anyone to care if you happen to use the same song as someone else - and that's not because you're not "1337," it's because you're either "stupid" or "mentally imbalanced" (or maybe both.)
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

I plan on making a video to Me+My's So many men to.....Fushigi Yuugi ^_^ someday even though there is a version of it already. It'll be mine...I never worried if someone would think I was trying to compete or ride on someone's heels. It would be my video and just fun to make and hopefully for other people to watch.

I used to think it was disrespectful to want to make an amv to a video someone else had used before me. And there are still some I wouldn't touch because I tend to associate that song with their version. But my reasons changed. I just made an amv to a song I found by watching other amvs. It's not 'competing' with theirs, it's my own version and very different from the other one I saw (to Ronin Warriors) but to be safe, I didn't watch the others listed on the org until I had mine done

From what I have seen, no one has ever been attacked for using a song someone else had done. Stolen clips, yes. Whole DDR idea raised a bit of a fuss but like someone else said, lots of butterfly videos exist and no one has ever said a bad thing about them just because of the song selection and it's popularity.

But I guess you already decided and won't be putting up on the interweb anyway, so I miss why this is even an issue to you in making it....

Thanks for the honesty, you guys. Really. After all the feelgood bullshit, it's good to see some truth.

I may be a fucking moron, but I can think enough to appreciate that. I'll remember that, guys. So few people around here are honest.

(and Misty, I didn't decide that until after some previous posts in this thread. "Mentally deficient" or not, I'm not quite that stupid as to post a thread about something that's a foregone conclusion.)

I don't even see why this thread had to get as far as Jbone's comment. It's almost as if you're looking for a reason to not do your video. Because if you wanted to make this video it would seem to me that you would've just done so already, instead of doing what amounts to asking permission to use your idea.
Fuck backlash and all that other petty shit, if you want to make the video, make it. What you choose to do after you've made the video is up to you. Nobody can make you release it if you don't want to, but at least make it if it's your desire to do so.

As long as you're not 'stealing' someone else's idea, there's nothing ethically wrong with it. On a basic level, this isn't a competition. And to say 'omg, i'm not making this video because suchandsuch is doing a similar idea' is...foolish, and it turns it into a competition. If we decided whether or not we'd do our ideas based on their being a 'better' video out there, then none of us would be doing anything. Because no matter how good you are, there is always someone better.

You don't ever have to ask permission to do your own idea. That's pretty much the long and short of it.
Everyone is not the same as you.
Get over it.
And lighten up.

But it's not my idea. ErMaC had it first; I just didn't know about it.

Look, I never said anybody was ever going to STOP me. I just wondered if I would look like a copycat loser, everybody said no, and then Jbone stepped up to tell me nobody gives a fuck about me anyway (with some sarcasm from Beowulf over there, which was kind of unnecessary, but I do make an easy target so y'know, if that's all you want to do, then whatever.)

So the question is answered: "nobody cares, so shut the fuck up."

I posted in the first place to get the question answered: would I look like a copycat, yes or no. Most people didn't bother answering, or maybe my question wasn't clear enough. But that's why I posted. Look, I'm a gigantic lam0r, and anything I can do to reduce my lam0rness even a tiny bit makes my life that little bit easier. That's all.

And I did get my answer, finally. I'd like to forget this all ever happened; just forget you ever heard of me. Case closed.
