I was looking into getting Pinnacle Studio AV/DV because I want to capture from my TV, VCR, and my DVD player, but I'm not sure wether it's the thing for me. I'm also going to get a camcorder (probably digital), so I intend to use it with that.
The thing that really makes me reluctant is the price. I would be okay if they didn't include the video editing software--I have my own--but the one I was gonna buy was $195 (PS Deluxe), and it came with everything.
So, basically I want to know from those who have had some experience with it is is it worth it. And why or why not. (And if I can get it for any cheaper...)
Thanks.

Digtal camcorders typically have their own direct connection firewire. So you don't need a capture device for that. Just a firewire port.
I personally use an ADS Instant DVD 2.0. Street price for those is $179. The 1.0 version of the device now sells for less than $100. There really isn't much of a difference in resolution between the two. 720x480 v.704x480. I've been pretty happy with it. Came with ULead Video Studio 7.0 and Movie Factory 2.0.
You're probably not going to be able to buy these devices without software. Manufacturers typically modify the software for their devices. This is especially true with Pinnacle. They acquired Dazzle back on July. Their devices are notoriously proprietary. I would say don't expect the device to work with anything other than the bundled software.
