Anime USA Deadline Reminder
The deadline for the Anime USA AMV Contest is coming up in 3 weeks. Get those submissions in ASAP... all the cool kids are submitting.
Come on, give in to peer pressure. You know you want to, especially if you like to make upbeat and action videos. *hint hint*

I want to enter but seeing the rules I am a bit confused as to whether my video would be "legal" or not for exhibition.
The only subtitles are in Japanese and are completely unavoidable due to the fact that it’s a hard-sub to meant to translate from eubonic-English to Japanese (not a rip from the domestic, but the original Japanese track.) This hasn’t me concerned so much, but I just want to clarify before I enter. I would really like to get this one shown
Your video can not include subtitles, whether they be from fansubs or from an official release. Subtitles that you add yourself are acceptable.
Your video should not include audio from a commercial dub. Any sound effects or dubbing you do yourself however, is fine by us.
In my video Nabeshin's: No Escape (linked beloiw) i have a bumper which I feel is necessary to the video in and of itself. While I can crop out the studio name I would like to know if this would deem the video disqualified. I have the bumper to set up the audience for the cheezy b-movie styling, therefore it's almost completely ineffective without it. My other problem lies in the fact that I not only use the characters themselves, but direct audio rips from Mystery Science Theater 3000. This too has me concerned. Your site said “from a commercial dub,” is that referring just to anime, or would this also get me booted?Do NOT include studio bumpers, credits or title cards with your video. Anime USA will be creating custom, uniform title cards based on the information that you give us. Including a bumper, credits, or title card of your own design may result in disqualification.

While text that was always part of the show is probably okay, using the dub from the show (and from MST3K) is probably not allowed. You can use the character's original japanese dub (which IS allowed, IIRC) and subtitle it yourself, and that's permitted.

I think your video will be fine. What we're looking for is for people to stick to the "spirit" of the rules. The reason we ask people not to include bumpers and title placards is because we will be creating uniform title placards for the contest, and ifyou show a title placard as well it will be redundant. When the bumper is part of the AMV itself, that's another story. Using direct audio rips from MST3k is fine as well. Espcially if you're submitting the video in the parody track seeing as how many parodies use spoken audio with editied footage.
