Effect i cant figure out!!!!

Post by GrooTheWanderer419 » Thu Oct 09, 2003 8:41 pm

well one of many really. the three main ones. and yes like everyone else in the world im sorry if this has been asked but well dont freak. 1. in winamp it has that line that u can set for visualization to show the beat. i've seen it on vids and im wondering what plugin, either for adobe premiere or after effects, it might be, and if anyone has a link to a trial version thank you. 2nd is, i got this idea when watching Pleasantville, and my parents hate me watching TV, can u make, and if so how, 1 part of a clip black&white and the rest is color, and visca versa. like lets say Ken vs Ryu and i wanna grey everything but ken and ryu..can i do that and with what? and the third effect im trying to do is: at animethon 10 it was in a princess nine vid. has an image and then three blocks appear on the screen and those three blocks spread to make the next vid image. anyone know? thanks for any help

(1) This belongs in General Video Software help.
(Question 1) Dunno.
(Question two) After effects is the only thing I can think of, but honestly I really wouldn't want to do that. =\
(Question three) The use of MSPaint, the square tool, and the colors black and white(paired with "image matte" in Premiere) are your friends.

For the Princess Nine video question, you may want to track down the editor him/herself. After talking to Koop about Euphoria I realized how much fun it is asking editors questions about their vids because usually they just love to talk about them, and I love to hear it.
For question 1, I don't know for sure, but I think it's a standard feature with After Effects, otherwise it can be obtained for After Effects. Either way, I'm positive it's something fairly easy that you can do in AE. Richard Cole (Nappy) did Can't Stop The Rock, and used that effect, and I asked the same question of him, and I believe that's the answer he gave. If you can't find it based on that, you can probably track him down and ask him.
Question 2 is difficult to answer except to say that, while it can be done, it would require you logging several hours of editing time for every second of AMV you wish to produce in After Effects. Play around with the "mask" settings, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

yep, the sound wave is a effect in After Effects...Masking! Yep, get a real comfortable chair! Depending on how much you want to use it, put a lot of time aside... But the end results can be worth all the effort....

I don't know about anyone else, but i just ripped the end title off the FLCL DVDs and made the black portions translucent.
But then again I might just be lazy.

Dude. I did the same thing for "Haruko the Superfreak", using textless ending #3 and a Screen transparency setting... then timed the panning "Haruko gets her motorcycle stuff" shots with the music.

Of course, the waveforms probably didn't line up with the actual music, but oh well. :)

Sorry, should have said that the advantage of using Screen transparency is that it makes ALL the black completely transparent without your having to touch the actual frames... and it's included in Premiere as far as I know.

*has never touched After Effects in his life*

#2 can be done with the Color Pass filter. Whatever color you select is what it highlights, so just select the color you want to grey out, fiddle with it, then reverse it, and you'll have the thing masked out.

For #1, Audio Waveform or Audio Spectrum are what you need. One gives you an oscilloscope-style thing, the other gives you the EQ-meter thing, but I can't recall which is which.
