looking for an effect

Post by Bebop0083 » Thu Oct 09, 2003 3:48 pm

im looking for an effect i want to do in a vid of mine but im not sure how to do it or what its called. ive seen it done in vids before but the one ive seen it in recently was Wired Knight's NES project vid. the effect starts around 2:02 and is also seen a couple of times through out the video. if some one can tell me what that effect is and how to do it im have adobe premiere 6.0 and 6.5. i wish i could be a little more discreptive but i dont really know how to describe the technique so if any one else has seen the video and knows what im talking about that be grate. help would be really appreciated cause i want to use that technique in a few upcoming vids of mine.

also while im at it im also looking on how to do the typing technique where words type across the screen. now this other idea i have is kinda tricky to explain. i want to have a black background and the character's body highlighted in white kinda like the cards on adult swim. but then i want the character come in place with the highlighted picture. i need to do those two effects on a current video of mine. if any one knows the my first question to my first post here that be'd great too.

For the second part of your post, do mean that you want to do a black silhouette of the character on a white background then have the character replace the silhouette at a later frame? I believe that in Photoshop you need to have the exported frame with the character in it. Then create a new layer and fill it with white, Edit\Fill then choose white. After that, make a selection around the character in the background image, making sure that you only have the body selected. Go to Selection\Save Selection and name it and click Okay. Select the White filled layer then Edit\Load Selection and pick the selection you named. The marching ants should appear and then you go to Edit\Fill and pick Black. A black silhouette of the character should be visible. Flatten the image and save it as a .PSD and import it into Premiere and place it in front of the frame where you want it to appear.

Is that what you were looking for to solve you problem?

If your a person that has a lot of experience with Photoshop, following all the steps that I told you won't take long. The lomgest step will be making a selection of the character because you have to do it carefully.
