When I require the need for it, I use one or more of the following methods:
My shell account on server in sueden. No logs are taken.
Anonymous T1 proxy in Algeria. (pretty fast, usually d/l through here) No logs are taken here either.
I shut down all ports (unless those needed) to the outside. That way no programs send any info, just in case.
I use a steganographic file system.
I don't use Internet Explorer(i use ie engine based one though) or Windows Media Player(with WMP 9, MS sells the info about what you play, listen, etc. to many companies, not your identity, just what people do).
Between close friends I Xfer files and talk using WASTE. With encryption at around 2040 bit.
Most of my passwords are long phrases.
Firewall / router is a linux machine. (you with linksyses = you paid for a blue piece of plastic, it resets quite easily...)
Overkill? probably.

On TechTV, a guy rigged a harddrive rack with thermite switches...Toecutter wrote: As for other security measures, I have a slew of home-made self defense weapons, and I've been considering rigging some non-lethal booby traps around the perimeter of my room. Then there's that weapon's cache I was getting around to making, but I didn't have the lumber or time to make it deep enough underground.
So, a few switches flipped and your hard drive, computer, and probably house is up in flames. They set it off on the street and it was pretty cool seeing the platters being burned through. Oh, and then the rest of the computer too.

My newest computer will be top of it's power and performance. And it won't have the internet on it. I need my cpu for otherthings and not the internet really. Some big entity gave me a gift to be able to succeed with computers and I don't want other shitheads ruining for me really.2 years of my life, I had two plagiarism attacks. One was a fake, the teacher hated me and I found out along with a group of people and several teachers who knew me better than the others (which isn't much), second some idiot stole my speech and plastered it all over the internet before i copyrighted it and stuff.and the speech was found before I spoke it and it pissed me off quite frankly. They accused me of plagiarism, but the only thing was, i didn't have the internet at the time, and there was NO record of me using the school's shitty ass computers which didn't allow you to use the internet anyway and I had 6 witnesses who actually saw me write the speech the VERY day we were assigned the task.apparently some idiot stole my floppy disk with it on there, and copied.
How did I win it you ask? well apparently he got drunk and told his girlfriend who happened to be a girl who I helped bring out of a depression period. She told me and the head of faculty in the school and the guy that stole my disk was suspended for a month.
But as you see, no matter what happens in the world, information is not going to be safe. Privacy is almost a laugh and three quarters because no matter what happens there is always going to be a time where nothing is safe. So truthfully, why hold the dignity for it?
I don't care what happens to me or my information much unless it has an affect that would make my life go downhill (if i can call it a life) So come on, stalk me if you dare
squeeze my head like a sponge from all the information in it (like i'd keep it in there) I really don't care. And yes I use XP, My porn vids and music videos and music are sent through MS ALL the time, I don't use ie however, I just use neoplanet, because it asks if you want popups and I can change the skin to whatever theme I want.
But yeah. Paranoia is pointless
