Hey Matt, I always draw out 10+ designs for sites I do. Then I eliminate, combine, and and make 10+ alternates and edits of the design I like and pick which I like from that. Back in high school I used to draw em all the time in Physics and Calculus.
Oh, always ask others. In the middle of class, I'd be like, what do ya think of this? Go to comp lab ( me and friend started Web Dev. class in school ) print it out, pass around, see which one they liked.
And when you show others, MAKE SURE YOU WATCH THEIR EYES. Not in a creepy way.... But watch the way that the page flows to them. Most people will look in the same order, and if it's unatural you can usually tell by how their eyes move all over page.

Why not learn html? Its not that hard, you could probably get the jist of it using nothing but google in 2 days time or so.

Btw, reminds me of my site when I was first learning, just dont be discouraged.

really? meh thanks. But i think i really need to step up from geoshities ... while i'm at it i should problaby take the training wheels off my bike too

But if i do spend money on a real site then i'd need to learn how to put up a good lay out ... meh i guessi'll ahve to follow my friends adivce and make a template with a navagation bar on the side throught out the whole site ... whatever. thanks flint.

eeeevil, don't become like the masses. do something original that you'd like. remember, there's no rule that says side navi's are a must...

i just hate the norm. probably why i also like doing flash sites.
