Just a heads up if your interested.
www.centralparkmedia.com has the box set listed under "Descendants of Darkness" for 99.00. If you want an English dub option version.
Or
Go on Ebay and buy the Yami no Matsuei box set for about 20.00.
No English dub option but you still have your subtitles.
In my opinion, I own both of these, the cheaper non-american release is much better. The subtitles have some spelling problems, but they are acutally much better than the MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE American release.
They changed the story a bit in the English version, not to mention the fact that they took out/replaced some of my favorite lines. One thing that really pissed me off about the Central Park version is that they made this (I apologize in advance for this, but there is no other way to put it) very gay. I know this is considered a Yaoi anime but.... in the manga's Muraki is not running around trying to hump Tsuzki's leg like he is in this version.
Im not trying to be too critical, but I have watched this anime many, many times before I bought the English release and I have read the mangas many times as well and there is a REALLY good story behind the anime that they never really even get into, the English version seemed to take this one part of the story and dwell on it to the point that I think you miss some of the deeper and darker sides to this anime.
But, I would HIGHLY recommend that you do get either version, this is by far (entirely my opinion) the best anime I have ever seen and also my favorite, so if you like the story then by all means read the mangas becuse they are far better than the anime itself.

Hmm... Well, if I were to go with the ebay option, what would I do witht he english DVD I already have? =\
I'm having that trouble with Blue Sub 6...
I bought the first 2 DVDs, then the place I was special ording them from just went up and died. Then I find out that this ew DVD comes out with ALL the eps on it AND extra features. What am I supposed to do? Hunt on ebay for the other two eps I'm missing? Sell my first two DVDs and buy the special one DVD? Buy the special DVD and keep my two, so I have a series and a half? 0.o
Yeah, well, so I don't run into this problem ever again I guess I will just keep buying the english version... Unless the changes you say they made were also made in the subtitles... Because then I would just be pissed...

Yes, I hate to say it, but the subs in the English version are different as well.
Overall, this is a great anime, maybe Im just too critical. I have nothing against Yaoi or gay themes in anime but ..... After reading the mangas and learning the "rest of the story" that is not what the original story was about. There is a reason why Muraki wants Tsuzki's body so badly, (Ill be careful not to give any spoilers here) and he does sexually harrass Tsuzki relentlessly but, its all part of his plan to "catch Tsuzki " and the best way to get to him is through his mind (being a Pisces myself I understand the mind games and mental intimidation well thats at work here) its the little things that got me. Maybe its the translations that went a bit array, but the whole part about Muraki running about spouting his love for Tsuzki, in my opinion tends to draw you away from the whole underlying dark "masterplan".
Just keep that in mind and pay attention to the details, the story that unfolds is one of the darkest and well written stories I have ever seen. This story has MANY levels and is well worth getting into.
I believe that Central Park also sells the DVD's individually as well so you can pick up the ones that you are missing.

Well fudge. I guess I will get the japanese DVDs form ebay, then. And then I can.... I dunno, I'm sure I could use the english DVD as a bday gift for someone.. (The gift that keeps on giving... ¬¬)
I was caught off-guard on the great plot that I could see forming, regardless of the "Omgwtf, why is he so in love at first sight with this guy?" feeling. Not to mention that the art is awesome, as well. =p
Right now, the only thing going against this series(IMO) is the HORRIBLE HORRIBLE music.
And I repeat: HORRIBLE.
I literally could not sit through it... And if you know me, you know I like most music, 0.o
Yes, so, anyway... eBay it is.
Thanks, Kazutaka.

Yami's music? I thought the music fit quite well with the series. I didn't really like the ending song, but other than that... Except in the last episode at the very end. They go the entire series with this dark, Halloween music and then it ends with the corny church music. XD
It's alright you didn't notice my post before, SQ. I got to quote myself, so life is good. XD
Worst... dub... ever... Valley boy Hisoka, nasely Muraki, Brooklyn accent Gushoshin, and insanely deep voice other Gushoshin...
Hisoka: I'm, like, SO outta here.

I know what you mean when it comes to the music, I was that way when I first got the series. HOWEVER, and I dont mean to scare you here, but believe it or not it grows on you. Yes I have the soundtracks (and there are several) and I listen to them quite often (must be out of my pure love and obsession for this series). The more I got into the story, the more I listened to the music. The closing song does take a bit of getting used to, however some of the music on the soundtracks and throughout the series is really VERY good. I would actually rate the soundtrack as one of the best anime soundtracks out there.
I agree on the artwork it is some of the BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN !!! Especially with Muraki, the way they draw the chara and the use of light and shading just blew me away. This is COMPLETE EYE CANDY...... with lots of food for thought.
Enjoy.....

Those really colorful eyes are just so great... ^^
And Kazutaka, if you have the OSTs for this anime, would you mind sending me the names and tracklists via email? I have a site called AMP(it's down right now because of a humungo update) which is a buyer's guide of anime and game music OSTs. I am listing all OSTs I can get a hold of, putting up 5 tracks per disc for download so people can sample the music, and then providing links to various comapnies/businesses that distribute the CDs so they can buy it...
... If you could donate these OSTs to me, that's be great help, and since I have over 50 OSTs to deal with as it is, I'm sure adding yours wouldn't be too bad...

Oh yeah I forgot about the horrible voices, in all my ranting I left that one out. I honestly cant sit through a single ep in english. The voices just rake my nerves.

Sure Ill work with you on the soundtracks, SQ and Im looking forward to checking out your site.
I really need to work on my site too, Ive been having massive computer problems for about 3 weeks now. Im having to take over my friends pc to post here. So I really havent gotten anything done lately, hopefully Ill figure out these motherboard nightmares soon and be back up and running.
Ive also got some really interesting AMVs I have been working on lately (when my computer was running). I have been exploring some of the darker sides of Yami, when you see the series you should check them out.
