Yeah--I think the legal age of consent is a good thing...

no matter how wrong society might be in other things, the legal age is right.

I am trying to have a slightly serious discussion about something that has been troubling me. Do you mind keeping the sarcasm low. I know that post wasnt all the insightful but its the best I could do for a fast reply.

If you think back to the times when people didnt live to be very old there was Pedophilia all the time and it was acceptable.

that depends on the culture, but there are societies where there are strict rules for marriage.

I mean some people believe 17 and younger is pedophilia. Some believe its 10 and under or so. Its hard to say what your against when people dont know if they are talking the same age here or not.

I heard of this a few days back, but have no sources to back it up. If true, it is astounding.

I'm speaking about male pedophilias now. in their case, the likely reason why they choose to have sex with underage girls is because they lack the confidence to sexually interact with females their own age or older. sex with underage girls then becomes not sexually orientated, but power-orientated. when this is the case, often violence is involved. this could include forced submission and rape.

i'm not speakign for all cases, but cases of pedophilia and rape are power-tied.

Yeah... the Greeks practiced pedophilia (heck, the etymology of the word is from Greek--lover of children). They also had slavery and, in some areas (Ephesus comes to mind) left unwanted babies--born ones, not prematurely aborted fetuses--on top of a hill to die. They called it "Exposure."

And I think that most cases of pedophilia were carefully monitered... it could only be male-on-male, and only before the boy was legally an adult, and he had to play the part of the woman. Basically, it wasn't that you could touch any child, even if the child consented. Most kids don't understand what they're getting into anyway, even if they consent.

Just because it was okay at one point in time doesn't mean that it should be okay again.
