Take a look at the maps they show quite often throughout the anime series and manga.

It shows China, Mongolia, Korea, Japan, etc... and where the different villages are in those areas. They sure don't say it outright, but I know a map of asia when I see one. I believe the first time they show a map of villages is when they fight Zabuza for the first time. Well, when they meet his henchmen actually.

I believe they also show a map when Kabuto shows the info cards to Naruto and the gang. Im still questionable about whether or not its really asia though. Even if it looks like asia, its not asia until its said so in the manga or anime. As Kakashi once said "Assume nothing"

Ive only actually read the manga (In shonen jump) but im hoping to get a glimpse of the series, I think its good so far but does anyone know how close the Anime and Manga are?

Maybe you're right, it could easily be Mexico or Germany!

I did mean how strict is it to the manga... thanks for the correction, anyway Ive only read so much, but they dont show nor sell it anywhere I know anyway as I live in the UK...

I didn't say that it doesn't have the same things but this anime was produced in Japan so naturally there will be elements from Japanese culture. Its the same reason why characters in Star Wars speak english. The creator spoke english and the audience was english speaking so the movie had roots based on his life. But does this mean that Luke Skywalker is from Earth? No because it takes place in the past. The same can be said for Naruto, the creator is from Japan and his audience is also from Japan so he will include elements from his culture, but that does not mean that it is based in Japan. Like I said Assume nothing, until the created says, "this anime is based in Asia", then it doesn't take place there.

Naruto (the anime) seems to follow the manga very closely... that's why it takes forever to get anything done.

hmm.... that reminds me of... wel... Everything Else In Shonen Jump!!! all the series that just seem to take forever compared to their original manga - DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Yu-Gi-Oh! etc

yu gi oh has been completely warped. what was originally a cool idea abt egyptian artifacts becomes a commercial project to promote the card game! that dint stick to manga at all! i read the first book in the manga and loved it, a bit geeky but it got its own propz...
