Advanced skillz

I'm not exactly an advanced AMV creator, and in the eyes of many I might be seen as a newbie. But I have trouble deciding on what advanced skills are exactly.
For instance, I know that it is time consuming to use After Effects, or toy with the color individual clips, but that isn't really particularly difficult per se.
Is it artistic creativity? How about ability to portray a concept or story? Maybe it’s how the creator leaves you feeling afterward.
So the question is, what are the types of things that make a great AMV creator, versus the things that are flashy and showy?

Well, to me... many things make up a great AMV creator. Just because someone is "flashy" doesn't neccesarrily mean that their video has no depth. It just means that, that is how they wish to show their artistic capabilities. Everyone has their own style. It's when a majority of the people are amazed and astounded by the editor's ability in creating videos that arouse the senses on multiple levels, that truely make someone a great AMV creator. Well, that's what I think at least.

P.S. this opinion does not reflect upon any others thoughts about what a great AMV creator really is. Please don't hurt me.

'Course you would say something like that koop, your new vid is a seizure inducer type! But you’re right, of course. But then the question is, is it that ability to engage upon multiple levels the thing that makes a creator talented?

Advanced skillz

1 - Self proclamation.

2 - Something other people will claim you have.

I think experience in the key, although not always. There are many people who can sit down and make their first video and blow away anything I have done... though that's just my opinion. Someone else might say "yo flux, you've got advanced skillz."

To be a great AMV maker you need to:

#1 - Make videos, duh!
#2 - Entertain the nice people.
#3 - Work hard.
#4 - Make your visions come to life within your videos.
#5 - Accept the fact that you are not god's gift to the world.
#6 - Always continue to develop artistically and technically. Never stop experimenting or trying new things.

That's a great way to look at it. I mean, you could just as easily "rest on your laurels" but those that continue to grow are those that become great. Alright *jots down flux's post* I'm going to keep that as my checklist

well, its like this....

mad skillz = mad practize
mad practize = mad sweat/blood/time/life sacrificed
mad sacrifice = mad resultz

yah?....yahhhhhhh

its like...who's a great amv creator? there is no greatest. just he-who's-well-developed-in-the-art of amv editing/creating. you can't just come by advanced skills and expect to be the best just like that... yeah, its all trial and error, but its also love of the game. you can't just create/edit if you want to do this as a hobby...you have to have a goal. cuz with that goal comes (

bout to get corny....) ::spiderman voice:: great responsibility... and desire! you want to be the best? then you're eventually going to learn the best techniques. and there isn't just one technique out there... cuz there's not just one genre to develope a vid on.

Advanced elite Skillz...

I see a few forms of this.

Super elite simplicity:

no fx, just good editing...
fav example that pops to my mind: TaranT's "Sakura" - Winner of the "Kickass Cute and Kinetic" award.

no fx, but good building of a story that doesn't necessarily match the lyrics:
Another example of this: Beautiful Life and Chantilly Lace by Kevin Caldwell. Nothing special but a little lipsynch.

Or, the Dancing Seizure City of AMVs...

FX Frenzy backed by a nice story:
Fav Examples: Anything by the Fremmerlids!

FX Frenzy to make people smile and dance:
Fav Examples: Odorikuruu, Japanese MADs, any of my videos... ^_^

Those are my four "opinions" of forms and technique that make a good amv editor. If you look closely, that's pretty much ALL the types of "skilled" amvs made...

Hmm, then how do you explain a phenomenon like SpPanda who won best action video at Fanime (a con of 7,000 people and a really tough contest)? I mean, it's his FIRST VID! No, the truth is that no matter how hard a person works, there is an innate amount of talent.
Case in point, myself. I have three vids. The third is the worst of the three. The third took me longer than either of the first two. I had more experience, and more "mad sweat/blood/time/life sacrificed" and I still didn't come up with anything worth watching. I don't mean I put in 12 hours this time, my third video took me 110 hours of work, and it's STILL CRAP! I see this kind of thing all the time. You can't really believe that effort is everything, because it isn't.

of course there is such thing as luck and freaking bastards....

as far as how you worked ur ass off and created crap... you've learned haven't you?
