Yes, how can we promote people downloading from your FTP? I don't want to do anything that you don't want done. :P

No Limits

Post by marcyu » Sun Aug 18, 2002 1:02 am

Yes, you can link directly to the videos via http or ftp. You can give the ftp info to anyone who would contribute amv's to the site. You can also give it to folks who just want to download, but I recommend discretion when doing so. It's our bandwidth, and the more people that are on, the slower speeds everyone will see. Plus, please be careful about giving the info to some hacker-types.

Yes, the connection is very fast. If you're interested, I can give you the email address of the person who's doing this. She resells server space for $9.95 per month. I've been told the server I'm on has multiple high speed connections (whatever that means). It's by far the fastest server I've ever been on in my 7 years of web work. I've also been told the server usually transfers 4 MBytes - 32 Mbits - per second). I've got an OC-3 at work and I was downloading at 2 Mbits per second, which I'm guessing is the max limit per connection.

I do not not how often the server is taken down (has happened a few times intermittently for a few minutes in the past week). I'd rate it 98-99%.

[sniffle...] [bows...]

May I use this server as a mirror for my videos as well?

I'm not sure how much bandwidth my vids make but I have around 298 Megs of videos to distribute and my main server is takin' a beating...

:)

I'd like to say thanks in advance since what you're doing is a HUGE help for us aspiring artists!!!

Go right ahead an upload. All are welcome to partake of the space and bandwidth, with the aforementioned caveats.

Free Ride is Over

Post by marcyu » Mon Aug 19, 2002 12:04 pm

Well, I guess the $3 eBay auction wasn't that great after all. Sorry, folks, but I have been informed by my provider to shut down this service. It was a fun ride while it lasted. Many apologies for those who contributed and spent valuable time doing this. I'll try to get another service within the week to repost all of the AMV's I've received so far.

Well, it was good while it lasted :/

I had a feeling that this would happen, as it was a bit too good to be true. Oh well.

Thanks for trying marcyu - but remember, there is no such thing as unlimited - even if the server is DAMN fast ^_^

Dude, if I were you I'd be deep into an apology letter...IF you broke their TOS in anyway, they can easily sue you and win back any and all damages. They arn't like (IP Communications and Bell Atlantic) which means: their paying at least (and I'm talking about at absolute minimum) .6 to 1.2 cents per megabyte both up and down to a Tier 1 provider...Since you only paid $3 or so...They undoubtably got billed for m much more money than you paid them.
