steping lightly

Post by Ashton » Sun Aug 18, 2002 11:45 pm

It seems that in this forum, there is nothing that can be said or done to keep somebody from getting angry. Now I choose not to point fingers or name names or throw dirty words at people because I believe that there is a happy medium here somewhere. But I can’t help but feel that sometimes this forum is divided into two warring factions. On one side we have the ignorant newbies allied with well intended/less jaded veterans. On the other, we have those who have 100+ posts and those that wish please those with 100+ posts.
There is more point to this post than simply to discuss the nature of the difficulty, rather, it is to find a solution, and find that happy medium. So I ask you all, what is appropriate for the forums? Tell me which topics are acceptable in your opinion, and which should not be posted? (try to be general, as “FAVORITE POSTS SUCKZORZ!” doesn't help much)

I hope you weren't offended by my "favourite 'Favourite AMV' thread" post. I just meant it in fun.

The most common problem (that I can see) is that newbies in general tend to not read past posts on the forums and ask the same questions over and over. If people would just look around the forums and get a feel for how things go before posting, then things would go much smoother. For instance, there are many, many "favorite" threads that could easily be answered by reading the message archives (or using the forum search tool, which is quite good, BTW), yet new people post these all the time. Another example would be "How do I make AMVs" posts. These could easily be answered by looking through the forums a bit, and there's even a guide up now, yet we still get them.

No, not you... it's just an attitude, that's all. I'm not offended by anything, and anybody I was offended by is now hereby forgiven :D (not that I expect anyone to forgive me the heinous crime of writing that pitiably misunderstood little thread  )

This thread sucks.

No, seriously...

Some posts that I see on here could be answered much faster and easier by a 5-second trip to Google. Most of those posts deal with technical difficulties, and there are many excellent digital video resources on the Internet. You have to know how to read to use them, which I understand is hard for some people, but hey, it's the way of things.

Other questions, like "how do I make AMVz" or "fuk I need 31337 DBZ FOOTAGE NOW", are just so inane that whoever made them deserves to be taught a lesson with a swift verbal impaling. (Standard answers: Read the guides, read your editing program's manuals.)

But, you see, the thing is, I posted a "favorite" thread once. The reason I did it was because I believed that it was different enough from the others to have some validity and carry some interest. You say stuff like that that implies that only those that are new to the forums or those with low IQ are the ones posting those threads. I can't argue about my IQ, but I have been around this forum for over a year, and I posted my "favorite" thread this week. The thing was that everyone was so closed minded about it that no one cared to entertain its subtle difference from the others. Because I honestly was curious to find out which Linkin Park AMVs other creators liked. But all I got in return was flame for my "stupidity" and "laziness". It makes no sense, and generalizations like the one you just made perpetuate these kinds of problems. Everyone, open your minds!

No. I'm afraid I just simply disagree. No matter how bad they are, no matter how much they bring it upon themselves, it's the duty of the mature to avoid abusing anyone. (imho, of course)
Everyone has the right to be here, and there are no terms of service. We really can't in any fairness say what "the right way to use the forum" is, (aside from the rules, of course) so to look down upon a LBZ/newbie creator is unfair (imho, of course :D ) We may simply have conflicting opinions on the subject, in which case we may never come to a proper solution, but I encourage you to think of newbies as real people too :D .
And most importantly of all, remember, you too were once a lost little newbie, just like all the rest of us.

You'll find people are close-minded everywhere. It's a people thing, not necessarily a this-forum thing.

You have been here over a year? Then you could have seen that most people here don't like Linkin Park at all.
