My friend already has a reverse-blade for her Kenshin costume. It's kinda cool, but feels odd and you gotta be careful swinging it normally since the blade is facing you.

The art of learning Kendo?SQ wrote: And anyway, a quick rundown...
Kendo: The sport, using shinai(bamboo thingy) and armor.
Kenjutsu: The art of learning kendo, AKA Swordsmanship
Lai: Drawing and sheathing. That's it.
Laijutsu: art of learning how to.. Yeah. =\
Tameshigiri: art of cutting mats n' stuff. This is where the live blade comes in.
My class teaches all that plus grappling. Woo.
I believe the difference is more like kenjutsu centers itself more on the actual techniques, whereas kendo is "the way of the sword", and contains more of the philosophies that go with it.
I also believe it is IAI, not Lai. Or Batto, for that matter.
I like bugging people. Deal with it.

I'm pretty sure the main dojo with that famous guy(haha, I'm setting such a good example! ><) is in Long Beach...
And if not, you can always post a question about it in their forums.

jutsu you can add on to mean "the art of" thus, even if I was out of my mind, Kenjutsu would still mean "Art of Kendo"
This is where you use an iaito(katana that's dull) to practice forms n' stuffs..
And this is where I apologise because it is Iai... Bleh. I always mix the capital "I" and lowercase "L" up... =\

Kenshin uses one because it means he can fight without killing, and if he needs a sharp edge in an emergency, there's one there, unlike with a blunt sword. Otherwise, I don't know.Veldrin wrote:I never knew what the point of a reverse blade is. What is it/What does it do?

But.. then.. Wait a second...El Banana wrote:Unless you flip it over BEFORE you pop it....

Gah... I am so lost and it's from my own statement!!!
The blade should be up when you draw.... So it wouldn't cut you(since we're talking about the reverse-blade) but then...
If you turn it over to do an upward crescent from seiza, or just in particular, it could...
Well, I just remember Kenshin cutting his thumb in one episode... Maybe ti was sheathing...

IIRC, Kenshin was thumbing up the hilt of the sakabatou from a seated position, ready to unsheath it and fight what he thought was Jinei sneaking up behind him, but it was actually a furious Kaoru. Losing concentration, he dropped the sword back and caught his thumb accidentally.
