Do the strongest men really want to be women?

Post by DTJB » Tue Sep 30, 2003 3:38 pm

I was finishing up an episode of Kenshin today, and a reoccurring thought came to mind. I always thought it was weird that Kenshin was voiced by a woman (I'm talking about the Japanese dialogue FYI). But it sort of makes sense since I first mistook Kenshin for a woman in the original manga. It's actually not that shocking for me to know this, most female voice actresses play the roles of little boys. Shinji from Eva and Yukito from Cardcaptor Sakura are voiced by the same woman. Heck, Goku is even voiced by a woman. I just want to know if anyone knows of any other male characters who have a woman's voice, and vise-versa.
Probably too busy to be here right now.

Hmm...I know of a couple:

Nuriko (male yet crossdresses) is played by a woman. (FY)
Shaoran Li...played by woman. (CCS)

Just rather interesting (to me anyways) Sumomo is played by the same woman who voices for Li in Cardcaptors.

Actually, Yahiko and (in the OVA) Kenji, as well as other various cast members in Kenshin. are also voiced by women. Of the regular cast, only Sanosuke (and, on occasion, Hiko) are voice by men.

Souma Yuki (Fruits Basket) is the only other example that jumps to mind at the moment.

Lessee -- Kaoru Miki (the young blue-haired super-genius) from Shoujo Kakumei Utena. Not only is his voice provided by a woman -- it's the voice of SKULD!! Okay Okay, Hisakawa Aya.

Jim Hawkings from Outlaw Star. The family name of this seiyuu escapes me (given name is Rica).

But then, think about the opposite: men providing the voices of female characters. Just think of Project A-ko:

Mysterious Character 'D' (the one who keeps getting run over by A-ko on the way to school): Genda Tessho.

The alien Captain: Ikeda Shuichi (Char?!?)

Mari: one of the voices was by Gori Daisuke (appropriate, since Mari's a parody of the main character from Fist of the North Star)

well since you asked two questions...I could be nice and answer the other one as well ^_^

As far as I know, the main male children in Kodomo no Omocha (Kodocha) are voiced by females.

Many of the young boys on american cartoons are voiced by women as well. And the first 3 seasons of Ranma used Sarah Strange as Ranma's voice actor. She sounded pretty masculine actually.

Quatre's japanese seiyuu was the same woman who did Ryoko's voice.
