i thought that version had a good/evil theme to it. the two(mainly the girl) offed all the opponents. the two had a good intentions, unlike the sadistic ex-cops.

but still, i felt its a waste of my time to see it. i don't mind the spoilers, could someone tell me what the theme is???
If there was sex on camera, it is uncut. If the sex included Sawa getting raped as an adolescent (in the flashbacks she has a different hair style) you've seen the director's cut.

Hmm, underlying theme? That two hypocritical pedolphiles eventually get what's coming to them? That once your a killer there's no way out? That eventually what goes around, comes around? Just say no to statutory rape!? Take your pick.

Nothing wrong if you watched it, didn't like it, and are now confused. Different anime appeals to different people.

when I watched it the first time I didn't know anything about it or that there was an cut and uncut version. I quickly found that I was watching the uncut.

They could have done a find job with out the balant sex scene. They could have drawn them having sex without being that graphic, and it still would have gotten its point across. The fact that it was like that, to me, comes from the fact that they had previously done a story like it in Cool Devices. Same girl same cop, but he was making her take drugs that distorted her senses, later she kills him and she continues to take the drugs and fuck random men.

and whoever said that Japan has no roots in whole good/evil deal is a bit off, since you assume it only comes from Christianity. Where Buddhism, which had a heavy influence in Japan, has good/evil concepts. The theme of bad endings is American culture, because it's a reflection of life. Christians themselves say, "bad things happen to good people." So to me, for this movie in particular, it had a good ending cause she broke away from it all. Because what was ever stopping her from doing it beforehand? Yes she cared about the other guy who was involved, but to me he was marked to die and he wasn't suppose to live anyway. A good ending doesn't specify happy or sad. To me none of the endings bother me from anime because I know bad things happen and not everything has a happy ending. I just read/watch the news to know that. but then not all animes have bad endings.

I've rambled on and lost where I was going. Anyway, Kite has it's influences from Cool Devices or either they then did the Cool Devices after Kite, I'm not completely sure. I just know lots of other countries aren't as strict about nudity and sex on tv as USA is and that has its roots in Christian/Conservative themes.

Oh now I remember, without the cool action sequences kite would have been rather pointless and boring. The story in itself was a yawn and had mild attention that the blatant (realized I spelled this wrong in the previous post) sex woke you up from. The story isn't original or unique.

I got the uncut version.
Somehow I doubt theres an underlying theme. The japs did some pretty terrible shit during WW2.
I think Japan is one of the worse countries for Pedofilia.

Get whats comming to them, if only.
Perhaps one day I will lose my will to live and hunt some of the ppl I know who have done some of those terrible things.
But, in the mean time watching people kill bastards adds fuel to fire, it in no way serves to soath any desire for revenge only allows me to dream about it even more.

According to this ANN article, the region 1 completely uncut version of Kite is supposed to be released in September 2004. Buy it in stores then.

Or get the Region 2 version...
