oops, my bad. i gotta stop relying on calvin & hobbes.

well, my point was that people go on to do great things even if they are not constantly appreciated, or even if unappreciated during their entire lives. it'd be a loss to the amv community if the all the top amv editors stopped making their videos because of a deluge in newb amv editors. imagine if your favorite band broke up because there were too many garage bands starting up and getting recognition.

Well, the garage bands that gain any real recognition usually do so because they're good. Hopefully, the same thing happens here with video editors. The newbies that are good get recognized, and the ones that aren't get ignored. I hope?

I just kill time by taking pretty footage and syncing it up with songs I like.

I enjoy the process of making a video, except to where the video gets so frustrating for whatever reason that I just no longer feel that it is worth my time and effort. Then I kill the VOBs and piss on their ashes.

I also enjoy knowing that people enjoyed it. I like hearing, "Nice", or, "Hey, I liked that", and knowing that people enjoy something that I made. Then there's also the people who hate this or that video, and that hurts, but I try to take it in stride (although, one of the most painful, hurtful reviews I ever got turned out to have a positive effect on me after some time).

Would I still make videos if there was no one else on the planet? I dunno. Maybe for awhile just to kill time, but with no one to share what I've made with, I would probably fail to see the point after awhile.

Ya'll wanna know something I usually try not to advertise? I'm a closet opinion whore. I check almost everyday for new opinions on my videos, because I like feedback and hearing what people think about the crap I've made, negative and positive, even though the negative hurts sometimes. I have said on my profile page that I don't plan to leave a review or whatever unless the video itself motivates me too (i.e. I have something specific to say, not just, "I liked it"), and I won't, and neither do I expect anything else from other people, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy looking for feedback and hearing what people think.

On a tangent, I prefer creator to artist personally. Anyone can be a creator, but not everyone is an artist. And before anyone accuses me of being a pretentious fart, I consider myself a creator. I make stuff, I enjoy making it for the most part, some other people seem to like it and that makes me happy when they do, but it's not that great compared to other people's stuff, and I damn well know it, and I refuse to care about it or complex about it anymore.

If you wanna be somebody else, change your mind.

[clarify]

I am NOT giving up videos because people are constantly telling me to, nor am I begging for attention. My original argument still stands, that if people continue to make shitty videos for shitty reasons, and never, EVER improve, then we get whats happened. A flooded market, wherein the good creators all say "Fuck it, whats the point. What I do is no longer special, and even I do put something out, it's going to be lost in a sea of garbage."

Like it or not, thats reality. People who shouldn't be making videos have gotten easy access to tools and downloaded anime, and are now making videos. What I do is no longer special, no matter how good my videos are, because for every ounce of energy I spend, there's 10 idiots here who don't really care about what they're throwing down.

[/clarify]

I make videos for myself. I make videos for other people to enjoy, and I get enjoyment out of that. Others get enjoyment out of the finished product. I don't know why everyone thinks it's so terribly wrong to be driven to create what others can enjoy.

My point is that the good and special videos don't get lost in the sea of garbage. Am I right?

i see your point. well, the rating system and star scale are supposed to prevent good videos from getting mixed with the "sea of garbage." unfortunately, editors who rate themselves all 10s/5stars and get their friends to do the same mess up the system. still, i guess the difference between us is that I'm satisfied if I can get just a few positive responses. but i spose if i were used to getting tons of good responses, i'd get bored with it. well, i guess i'm just not at your stage yet. hopefully i wont reach your stage (no offense) because i've been finding editing quite fun, and it'd be sad to lose the fun.

i meant hypothetically, if everyone stopped paying attention to good bands and all paid attention to all the garage/indie new bands good or not, and your favorite band quit b/c they werent gaining any new fans. it'd be a shame.

the thing is, apart from the REALLY good and famous videos and editors, its pretty hard to tell what videos you'll like, and what you won't.

I really don't know how you cant detect a person "who shouldn't be making videos"... do you have some computer software to do this ? or a bionic detector ? Lend it to me, please, I won't lose time anymore to download videos if I can see that they suck only when I see the creator's name...

Man, What did I eat yesterday, I'm so angry I want to debate on everything :?

more new creators= more viewers too

Anime cons get larger every year. So more fans see amv contests. So more fans see the contests and want to start making amvs. So more amvs are made, some good, many not so good. I tend to watch the ones that are good, so I'm not complaining.
