Well you could always get those "for dummies" books. I hear they really work. Or maybe those audio tapes you listen to in the car or when your bored. Just suggestions. :?
I think there are online courses that you can do online also, but I hear they cost alot.

try and act like you are of that nationality, cause i am very curious about my nationalites cultures and language(Im Scottish, Irish, English, French, German, Italian, Canadian, American, and .0000002% Jewish)Just engulf yourself into a culture that you want to learn their language...ex, german culture, listen to rammstein, or get animes dubbed in german, and translate the words to english like Moonlights method, it works, ive picked up some german, and japanese from animes, and music....NANI?!?!?

? the BEST way to learn a Language ? Move to that country, be broke and try to stay alive for 6 months; you'll learn about their culture, whats right and wrong, wear the name baka-sama with pride and then know that if you can do it in Japan, you can do it anywhere ^^

Best way to learn... take a class for a couple years.
Next best way to learn... just get the textbook that the class uses. I highly discourage trying to learn it in your spare time, as this is probably near impossible. Ideally, you should study about 5 hours a week if you want to learn japanese in any reasonable length of time (about 3-4 years)

Take classes for proper grammer and stuff.
Live there if that's an option for everyday speech.

Actually its better to watch anime without subtitles. It forces you to try and figure out what they are saying, like a young child thats learning how to speak.
