Interesting Contest Idea
What if there was a contest using only WIndows Movie Maker? It would level the playing field for software challenged designers like me, and would be interesting to see what experts like you guys here could do with such primitive software.

Re: Interesting Contest Idea
It's a nice idea, but how would you make sure that WMM was the only program being used? I'm fairly sure that programs exist that can convert other formats to .WMV, and WMM2 has some real transitions and effects included.Suzuki_Akira wrote:What if there was a contest using only WIndows Movie Maker? I really hate this idea.Suzuki_Akira wrote:What if there was a contest using only WIndows Movie Maker? It would level the playing field for software challenged designers like me, and would be interesting to see what experts like you guys here could do with such primitive software.
The software you use really shouldn't have any bearing on the quality of what you produce. All this would do is reinforce a myth that you need expensive software to do good things.

I've never heard such BS in my life! I've worked at a TV station for about 5 years, and I edited on a LINEAR AMIGA 2000, that's right, DECK TO DECK VHS, and I have WON NUMEROUS AWARDS for my work.
I've kicked the CRAP out of other productions done on the latest and greatest non-linear systems, from Adobe Premiere to $20,000+ Avid editing systems! All because the creator belived that by having an expensive editing system, it would MAGICALLY make him or her more creative... or magically make the edits in better locations... or make their graphics and special effects look better...
Truthfully, most of the time, when an editor gets to use an expensive or more advanced editing system they LET THE TECHNOLOGY GET IN THE WAY OF CREATIVITY!
It is really insulting when people who wish to improve themselves in a particular field believe that it's the TECHNOLOGY that will make them better, when the power to improve themselves is WITHIN THEMSELVES!!!
I apologize for my rant, but this thread hit a very personal nerve of mine. I'll get off the soap-box now...

the software you use doesnt matter all too much in this. Each package is like a sword. there are many different kinds of swords out there. Each one has its own strengths and weaknesses , but in the proper hands, the sword cuts. Yes the Katana's curved blade is a more efficient design, but the braodsword can still cut a bamboo shaft.
