But, of course, if you include self in people, then...
by damn, you're right!

Oh no, people worship wins by a long shot because it doesn't involve the worship of true self. People worship involves the acts a person makes, not for ones self, but for others. Conforming to others views, buying the newest gadget, wearing the "right" clothes, worshipping the "right" diety, liking/disliking the right people.
Example: How many people practice proper hygeine because they should, and not to improve the view of themselves in others eyes. When a person brushes their teeth, is it to keep them healthy, or to keep them from smelling? Would people not brush their teeth if the teeth didn't need it, but brushing was the main way to get rid of bad breath? How many people wash their hands as a form of sanitation, just watch the next time you use a public restroom

You groom yourself so you look good to other people, you act a certain way, because it is deemed proper. You can say you don't conform your views to that of others, but just look at how you express your views around different groups of people with different inclinations.
No, "selflessness" is the worship that needs to be stopped. What kind of world is it where being selfish, living because you want to live and not by the will of society, is a bad thing? When you become selfless, you no longer have self. Don't worship the loss of self, don't be a people worshipper.
