Hehehehe..... I bet there is one Japan based animation forum where the members argue over American cartoons and how they should be called.

he makes a compelling point.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

An ocean of dust and randomly strung together pieces of hydrogen, serving no purpose other than allowing all of us to continue in our misery, doomed to an enternity of petty squabbles and meaningless ego trips, until the whole thing one day explodes and starts the whole shebang all over again. - Chaos_Angel

I agree with Nick. The de facto thought that pops up in most Western peoples' heads when they hear "anime" is "Japanese Animation", as well as an image of Speed Racer, a mecha, or La Blue Girl
.
It's kind of a moot argument though, since many East and West animation companies will off load some of the drawing work to Korean studios. I know "The Simpsons" does this, and they even mentioned Asian outsourcing in the episode about the "Itchy And Scratchy" movie. Japan, being even closer to Korea, probably does this also.

From one of my "old forum" posts...
10 print "Anime is JAPANESE animation! Look it up!"
15 print "In Japan, 'anime' can refer to American animation too."
20 print "But we're not in Japan!"
25 print "Being made in Japan doesn't always make it better."
30 print "What about Japan/other country co-productions?"
35 print "Shut up!"
40 print "Screw you, hippie!"
45 goto 10

you know it is possible for a word to have 2 meanings or defenitions.
