Need a second opinion...

Post by Toecutter » Thu Sep 11, 2003 3:36 am

Greetings from the GoatMan!

Well, I'm nearing my 21st birthday, which means the wait is almost over: I'll finally get to legally own and use handguns!!! Yes, as disturbing and wrong as this is, I have been looking forward to owning handguns even more than legally drinking alcohol (mainly because I don't like alcohol that much, and the only thing beer comes in handy for is something to drink in order to stockpile 12 oz targets!).

On the other hand, I've really been getting into using shotguns lately. I've got my eyes on a Mossberg 500 Persuader, with a 6 round capacity, 18 1/2" barrel, and pistol grip kit.

So, here's the question:

Which should I invest in first, the Persuader, or a concealed carry weapon?

Also, I'm having trouble deciding on an appropriate concealed carry weapon, once I get my permit. I've been firing .38 Specials since I was eight years old, so I'm comfortable with the recoil, but I still need more practice with my aim (my hands shake a little when I try to steady a weapon).

Of course, there's the Charles Bronson/Dirty Harry part of me that wants to use a Taurus Raging Bull® in .454 Casull (second most powerful handgun in the world, outclassed only by the far more expensive Smith and Wesson 500 Magnum), with the 8 3/8" barrel (not very practical for concealed carry, but definately far more accurate). While the .454 Casull has incredible accuracy (far superior to the infamous .38 Special/.38 Super/.380 ACP/.357 Magnum .355 caliber slug known for it's relatively flat trajectory, and limited loss of muzzle energy over 100 yards) and stopping power, it makes up for it's impressive resume with an incredible 40 ft-lbs of recoil! That's like trying to fire an ultra-lightweight 12 gauge with just a pistol grip!

Then, there's the practical, engineering side of me that, while admiring the simplicity, reliability, and ease of servicing of a revolver, desires a .380 ACP, .38 Super, or .40 S&W DA/SA or DAO concealed carry pistol. A .38 Super would give me the same accuracy as a .38 Special/.357 Magnum, with stopping power and muzzle velocity falling in-between the previously mentioned cartridges, be interchangable with .38 Super revolvers (just as .45 ACP firing revolvers were made in the early 1910's to make up for the limited supply of military M1911 autoloaders, the .38 Super revolvers are wheelguns made to fire the autoloader cartridge), and generally be less expensive, and more obscure than the "practical" .45 ACP, .40 S&W, or the crappy, 9x19mm autoloaders (damn foreigners!).

Basically, I'm looking at spending around $800 for a handgun, whether it be the .454 Casull, a nice Taurus .357 Magnum/.38 Special +P, or a more unique .38 Super autoloader. Of course, spending only $400 or less on a Mossberg 500 Persuader, which is more anti-gun liberal friendly (handguns are slowly being banned by fucking liberal pussies all over the U.S., making shotguns the only available, reasonable home defense weapon), but is not capable of being carried concealed. Somehow, I doubt the Fuzz would believe a 12 gauge shotgun falls in the category of a "concealed carry" weapon, and probably bust me for brandishing (those sick, Constitution-rewriting fascists!).

Anyway, what do you think?

Whichever one makes a head explode the best, THAT is the gun for you.

Take the Mosseberg. That shit has more power than anyone could wish for  Sure, your range will be limited, but I don't think you'll be having to defend from hicks and hippies from long range anytime soon... And, like you said, they'll probably be legal for longer.

I guess it's final then. The Persuader it is!

Thanks for the multiple second opinions.

Give it time - your government will take it from you somehow, eventually  .

Probably by using unconscious suggestion to make you not want it any more, knowing them.
