I was curious... after you guys rip a DVD and put it in DVD2AVI to make the project files, exactly how much video do you put into one d2v project file? For example is each of your project files a full episode or just a 3 minute section of video?

Also, I'm curious as to how different people name their files. I used to name mine 1.d2v, 2.d2v, 3.d2v, etc. (.avs files respectively) for each episode.

This is a really weird post, but I'm really curious.

AD, I would have to say that it depends on the DVD. I have a number of DVDs, especially from Bandai, that put one episode per title, and, if I recall correctly, one title per titleset.

For a dvd where the episodes are split like this, I would probably have one episode per d2v file. For a dvd where all the episodes are all in one titleset, or even all in one title, I would probably go with one d2v for the entire disc.

Well DVD2AVI works with .vob files. I belive there is chapter select in one of the versions of DVD2AVI, but in general, it's going to include th entire disc unless you remove some of the .vobs from the load list.

You can use the sliders to setup a portion of the video you want in a project file. Unless you do this, the entire dvd is used in the D2V project file.

DVD2AVI loads sequentially by filename. if you select VTS_01_1.VOB, it will pick up the rest of the VTS_01_*.VOB files after that one and then stop. if the next episode is in VTS_02_*.VOB, then it won't pick it up automatically, unless this has changed since the version I use. it also depends on how you rip it to the hard drive.

One thing that's nice about ripping one DVD / project file is that you ultimately end up with fewer project files, which is a good thing, especially with something like AVISynth.

That is, AVISynth in its default configuration is optimized to handle only a few scripts at a time; if you start loading dozens of scripts, then messy memory-related errors happen unless you give AVISynth an upper memory limit per instance. (Unexpected green screens are one such "memory-related error").

Actually, I think this was fixed in newer AVISynth revisions, but a lot of people aren't using the newest builds.

'Course I don't use AVISynth or DVD2AVI during the pre-production or editing phase so I don't really have a say in this

I tend to use one episode per d2v, without the OP/ED. Thats already a large bit of footage to have to go through, and the more footage you have in a single file, the harder it is to find footage, i think.

That's exactly what I do... As for the movies, I take out the ending credits and everything is limited to 1 vob file for everything I rip.
