Old Sit-coms?

Post by BishounenStalker » Sat Sep 06, 2003 2:38 pm

Now you guys KNOW I'm bored. As a kid I used to watch a lot of old 80s sit-coms with my mom, but only laughed because she did since I was too young to get the jokes. Now that some of them have been picked up by certain networks, I decided to watch them again. And they really are some of the funniest shows I've seen in a long while. Hell of a lot better than recent sorry attempts at prime-time comedy *coughSEINFELDcough*

Some of the ones I've gotten back into:

The Golden Girls -- Ok, go ahead, label me a lunatic. This show is damn funny, and one of the only two things Lifetime is worth watching for (I hate that FemiNazi network). Most of the humor is interaction/dialogue based, but what really makes the show is the dynamic between the four main characters. Really, this show has some of the funniest lines I've ever heard (example being the one in my sig). It's one of the few sit-coms I've seen where the characters themselves are actually funny, and it's not just embarassing events (although Golden Girls definitely has its share of those). You can find this one airing on Lifetime at 11 p.m. weekdays.

The Nanny -- The only other thing worth watching on Lifetime, and another one I didn't find funny until recently. Once you get used to Fran Drescher's voice, the show really is hysterical. The humor's based largely on juxtaposition and the widespread New York Jewish Family stereotypes (which are well founded. I can say so since my dad's half of the family is Jewish), but a good portion of it is the interaction between Niles, the stuffy butler, and Mr. Sheffield's bitchy associate, C.C. Catch this gem on Lifetime at midnight.

Yes, I've had too much coffee today.

How can you compare nanny to sienfield. Just the sound of her annoying ass voice makes me want to kill her. And seinfield is just as good as Golden Girls, only that show portrays the reality of being old, while sienfield is aimed at people in there 20-30's.

the new TGIF scares me almost as much as the Nanny... I used to like the Nanny way back when when I couldn't make out all the motherly cliches in it (or did Lifetime screw with it? meh...). It is decent I guess at least Designing Women isn't on anymore. Golden Girls is a classic. See my parents live in an old folks care place (not old like hospital old just old enough that they can't live on their own). So I catch Lifetime and AMC more often than I'd like ;-p.

Taxi was awesome.
