otaku poll
Just what is the average amount and rate of anime titles and/or manga do you have to complete to officially be labeled as an otaku?
i mean, i looked at the lists of symptoms of an otaku, and i do a bit of a lot of them, but i consider myself to be an otaku, i can't seem to pass a day without thinking abt a scene in anime(prevalently trigun and cowboy bebop) and play it in my head.
so also, list the reason you amounted to this answer.
In less than a year, I blew through 13+ titles and OAVs, and two manga titles. Its a bit better now, but I remember fidgeting in class cuz i can't wait to get home and start watching my episodes of (some anime title)

I consider myself an Otaku just because of my absolute passion for anime. My variety of tastes is wide and I've seen a few episodes of A LOT of anime titles. I don't actually own very much anime because I spend most of my money on video games or car insurance. I hardly ever finish a series especially since a lot of the anime I'm stuck with is on Cartoon Network... Ugh... Of course, Cartoon Network enables me to tell which animes are good and then I can go out and buy the unedited version.

I am an otaku because my anime obsession has eclipsed my Lord of the Rings obsession. There was a facet of my life when every waking moment was filled with madness over LOTR, but now anime has become a force to be reckoned with. I am, however, still loyal to LOTR, but my obsession has been subdued greatly.

I'm an otaku because I actually understand otaku-related jokes, because I like anime almost as much as I like my music, and because I live in my basement.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

How about NOT being an otaku?omniinuyasha85 wrote:Just what is the average amount and rate of anime titles and/or manga do you have to complete to officially be labeled as an otaku?
Really, it's not a good thing to be known as.
I'm out...

I see the word as an implied insult to my character, body odor, obsessiveness, attitude, and lifestyle in general. I prefer the term Afficinado, as it has far fewer negative connotations.kthulhu wrote:How about NOT being an otaku?omniinuyasha85 wrote:Just what is the average amount and rate of anime titles and/or manga do you have to complete to officially be labeled as an otaku?

The term is an insult in Japan and I find it humorous that Westerners have adopted it and think it's a compliment.
You know Japanese laugh when you say you're an Otaku in Japan right?
