They probably figure there's no other way to get the AMV information (or remember it). Why spend all your time frantically copying AMV information incorrectly in the dark, when simply not voting gets you all the information immediately?
Well, the best I find is putting a few volunteers at the doors at the end with a box so as people go out, they remind everyone... Even that is not the answer if people keep them. All one can do is plead with the audiance at the beginning to vote and turn them in
Maybe what someone could try to do is to have a portion of the AMV ballot be detachable (like the whole right side or the top or something) so that the votes can be turned in, but the audience voters still get to keep the useful information....
Interesting idea... It could be done considering where you had the voting at the top portion
From a budget & logistical viewpoint... how much do 4,500 little pencils cost? (I'm thinking those little ones they give you at Putt-Putt miniature golf because they're not worth stealing.) And how long does it take for one guy to hand out 4,500 AMV ballots at a screening -- an hour? How much time handing out ballots would having helpers cut down on?
This is the part I have a hard time understanding... I realize Otakon does not have money to burn, BUT considering how popualr the contest is what is a couple hundred dollars in pencils? At best you get 2/4 of them back anyway (At both of my contests, I got most of them back) as long as you have a box at the exits for them and make a few announcments... Having a pencil I find GREATLY increases the return.

In terms of handing them out, If they are handed out by a few volunteers at the door and to the line up prior, I don't see a problem in time considering only so many people can go thorugh the door at a time for seating of the event... I do realize there are people ther from the previous event, so logistically it makes its it harder to do...Well, that would have to be worked on.... Just that at AnimeExpo there were 4000+ people and both ballots and pencils were there... From what I heard the return was quite good....

AX had crayons XD I think they intended to get the golf pencils but didn't get them in time or something.

Thats a good point on wanting to keep the video list by keeping the ballot though o_o

Some web searching turns up... those half-length pre-sharpened yellow "Golf Pencils" without erasers ('also useful for Bridge and Pews' say the manufacturers 8) ) run from $7-$14 per one gross box (a gross = a dozen dozens). So, it'd take from $200 to $450 (32 boxes, depending on price at time of purchase) to give everybody in the Main Events room one pencil for the AMV Contest on Friday night.

Hopefully not everyone would need one, and we'd actually get half of them back for the other screenings. It's food for thought.

Labor is always a real problem for us at the con. :( There may not be enough gofers available to devote to handing out pencils & ballots to get it done in a timely manner.

However, now that I know what the little pencils cost, I can talk with the rest of the staff and see what they think of the idea.

Hmm. I recall getting about 1000 for $60.00 Canadian... That's about $40.00 US so for about 5000 it sould be no more than $200.00. I figure any totals beyond that would probably not be needed ant $20-50 may have to be spent each year to "top" the supply up..

I think this would increase the voting by a LOT... And the constant pleading to hand them in and vote....

Sound like some AMV creators need to be recruted! Once the seating is finished they would be able to go sit down anyway

Cool... I figure the con should be able to cover the cost or else I would be shocked... Anime Evolution covered $30.00 of pencils (I kept half) and it had 1400 people...
