Finally, after reading about spinodal decomposition techniques used by Nipponese bladesmiths, Eugene was inspired to see if the same technique would work in cereal cooking. It worked, but there was a slight problem: “Unlike a sword, you can’t coat half the flake in clay before baking it”.

Additionally, spinodal decomposition simply means when a material's second level substructure (grain formation, just above nano and molecular level) disintegrates on a condition (e.g. heat) and reorganizes, usually on relief (cooling). Although this technique can used by Nipponese bladesmiths, you can do it by cooking eggs. Just think of the egg whites being soft pearlite and the finished product being martenisitic gamma.
