Cant get premiere to fade my clip in/out.

So thats what that damn "X" means, lol.
In my own defense I really did read a ton of help topics, none of which told me that a preview was required. I agree that it is basic, but its also tricky stumbling block for first time users. Its unfortunate but a lot of people dont make it very far in video editing because they dont have the will and patience to fix things themselves. Looking back on it, I probably would have never figured it out based on my prior editing experience (i.e. virtual dub does not require previews to activate filters, etc).
That being said thanks once again for the help.
