Using unlicensed digisubs ain't shit dude. Those people who are quality based don't realize that even the BEST vids can come from digisubs... [me points to Onegai Studios vid "Fade" amv]
I think he purposely made that amv in order to spite these "quality lovin" people...
I've seen some really good amvs that don't use DVD rips and still looked quite good... [hell, I've recieved reviews from people thinking I used DVD rips of unlicensed anime... *cough]
No matter how poor you be, there's always a way. Perhaps you're hiding a talent that's yet to be seen... I for one know that quality isn't the best issue to judging an amv... [fuck, I'm still using digisubs to this day ALONGSIDE dvd rips, I don't give a shit, so long as I know my editting is solid]
Oh yeah, you want quality editing at low quality capture? MJ's editing for me surpasses his "low capture quality" by FAR on his older vids... [/me points to Liquid Petals and his "catgirl amv whose title eludes me"]
Use what you can, just don't download licensed anime...

Im 14 and save my money, this year i have bought RK, the bebop movie, and the evangelion box set.NicholasDWolfwood wrote:Yeah. I'm not using my age as an excuse. Or rather, I do, but I will buy things in 2 years when I can legally get a job, I don't want to sweat my ass off mowing lawns all day.
NME put it best.
5 Dollars + 5 Dollars = 10 Dollars.
OH MY GOD. I SEE A PATTERN. Money adds up.
Just save, dont get 50 dollars, say its not enough for all the dvds and go buy a video game. Make a list of what you want if it helps you and then just go search for ways to make money. Im sure someone will give you more then 5 dollars to mow their lawn

Ok, I agree that age is no excuse, and that even if your too young to actually "work" you can make easy money.
Right now, my system is:
P3 866 MHz
ATI RAGE 128 PRO
SoundBlaster Live!
30 GB Hard Drive
384 MB SDRAM
... ok, so my system's currently quite good... but my system still takes about an hour per minute at the quality I save my videos at in premiere... not to mention I have to work with Windoze Movie Breaker for some of the shit I dunno how to do in premiere yet...
And about one place in my whole town that I can even get anime DVDs (not much of a selection, either)
What I have to say here is that sometimes (like in my case) people manage to get some money, but can't use most of it. My mom made me save at least 1 third of what I made (i got fired
) While working, for my "Education", and even then, getting $45 (canadian
) per month allowance, and $6.40 per hour (I got one lousy paycheck before I got fired), there were so many things getting in my way, if a friend asked me to go to the movies with them, I almost always accepted (yes it's my fault, don't get all pissed at me...), so that was about $10.00 down the drain, my parents almost never had anything good for snacks at hime, so about every second weekend (or whenever I felt like it), I'd buy like, $5 of candy, and pop. oh, not to mention, my parents won't give me any more money, and almost never help me pay for something, so i have to pay for most of what I want with my own money with no help... let's see, add all that up, and you get one hell of a money problem...
Oh, and did I mention I currently have no money... oh wait, one more thing to add to money consumption, Going with friends to things like Paintball (like, once in like, 2 months, takes the whole month's money), and other things like that!
yes $5 + $5 = $10, but that still doesn't buy much when $10 = one movie going, with 1 ticket and a small popcorn (you couldn't afford anything but a small popcorn (if that) with about $2.80), and I'm 15, so even though I have almost no social life, my money tends to disappear faster than I anticipate, not to mention, lawn mowing season's almost up, and I have enough of a time mowing my lawn, little more other people's lawns (i'm going to make my parents pay me to cut our lawn....)
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is it's not easy to keep money when your 15, and money burns holes in your pockets.. (i DO have another bank account with about $800 to $1000 in it that i can't even touch
)
AND your parents refuse to help you with your finantial problems, except sometimes giving us a few bucks in advance if we need $2 or $3 for something, and we don't have it, and it's near the end of the month...
Ok, so I had some major overkill on the subject, but still, it's a bitch to get much money in my (and other similar) position(s), because there are few jobs at the moment, I don't even KNOW my neighbours, so I'm sure as hell not going to ask to mow their lawns, and I do have a semi-active social life (hell, maybe more active than about 5% of a-m-v.org's population ;_; ), and money trouble to start with.
Oh yeah, and there are no anime groups in my area, not to mention the nearest anime convention is about 2.5 hours away (and probably not worth going to)...
If you can come up with a responce worthy of actually causing me to take your advice, i'll make a special AMV just for you (WARNING: i have currently completed one AMV using Downloaded fan-sub episodes of Love Hina from kazaa [which got fucked up in a FTP transfer gone bad] and one partial Love Hina AMV that got deleted when I reformatted my family's hunk of junk, and am currently making a Magic Knight Rayearth AMV for submission here...)

Tell me about, it let me count the multitude of Sailor Moon and DBZ... still there got to be something worth checking out right? Eva maybe?bobbias wrote:And about one place in my whole town that I can even get anime DVDs (not much of a selection, either)
Money burns holes in peoples pockets regardless of age. The more you have the more you spend. Thus no matter how much you earn you will always end up with precisely nothing.bobbias wrote:Anyway, what I'm trying to say is it's not easy to keep money when your 15, and money burns holes in your pockets.. I wonder if you've really looked for anime groups. I thought there weren't any here either but then shockbobbias wrote:Oh yeah, and there are no anime groups in my area, not to mention the nearest anime convention is about 2.5 hours away (and probably not worth going to)...

Anime cons? Hah my nearest con is in Melborne that's nearly the bloody other side of Australia. 2.5 hrs away? try two days away by car! Meh, I'm not really dissing you but I would love to go to a con but I'd have to spend a lot of money on airfares and accomadation. Seriously I'm amazed at how distance is perceived in different places. Here 2.5 hrs is an afternoon drive, not that long at all. My cousin used to drive for 4 hrs each morning to go to classes and then the same home again. She thought she was lucky to be so close by!
I'll just repeat a couple of suggestions that have already been mentionedbobbias wrote:If you can come up with a responce worthy of actually causing me to take your advice, i'll make a special AMV just for you (WARNING: i have currently completed one AMV using Downloaded fan-sub episodes of Love Hina from kazaa [which got fucked up in a FTP transfer gone bad] and one partial Love Hina AMV that got deleted when I reformatted my family's hunk of junk, and am currently making a Magic Knight Rayearth AMV for submission here...)
1. Buy OVA's and Movies
2. Use game footage
3. Use New Anime where fansubs are the only option
4. Find a friend with lots of anime
5. Get a friend on the net to send you rips of the clips you are after
6. Save Money
okay I'm all done now

1. Ok first off, as I have mentioned, it's a bitch for me to get any money when I have so many different things going on in my life... So I can't really buy them...1. Buy OVA's and Movies
2. Use game footage
3. Use New Anime where fansubs are the only option
4. Find a friend with lots of anime
5. Get a friend on the net to send you rips of the clips you are after
6. Save Money
2. Uhh, why the fuck would I use game footage when I dont have many games, and I sure as hell dont want to use the games.. and their all scratched up...
3. Sometimes I want to use anime like Magic Knight Rayearth...
4. My only friend with ANY anime has End of Eva.. that's it... (yes, I'm going to use it.. when I can actually set up something to rip it....)
5. That might take quite a while....
6. See: My post...
In conclusion... I'm screwed.....

Working with a low budget.
Hoo baby, what an ego some of these people have! I've always had a little difficulty making money myself, so I've done what I can to discover how to make AMVs on the cheap. I'll say this: if you don't worry too much about the quality, you've got a decent computer, and you know where to look for the materials on the cheap, you can make an AMV for practically nothing. I managed to do so when I was a college student in a nowhere town with nothing much to do and nowhere to go. A few basic techniques:
First, get Virtualdub from Avery Lee. It's free (and nothing is more affordable than if it's free) and it's all you really need to make videos unless you're trying to do special effects. (I've never seen much of a need for special effects, since most of the stuff is right in the anime itself.
Second, get your hands on some tunes. I don't think I need to go much into specifics as to how to get these cheaply, with the RIAA whining as much as it is about all the downloading and CD-ripping, you should have a pretty good idea of where to get stuff for yourself, legally or otherwise.
Third, get some free codecs. DivX 5 is good (though you've got to know how to get rid of Gator's adware if you don't want those treasure-hunting thieves hijacking your browser and throwing lots of pop-ups at you) and Xvid is all right if you don't mind learning a lot of confusing technical stuff. (I do, so I use DivX 5 instead.) DivX 3, aside from being illegal, is a stupid and annoying codec in my opinion and I don't know why the hell anyone uses it. (Two codecs in one that require the use of the irritatingly complex Nandub program to get decent compression, and cause a lot of ringing and weird errors in the footage besides? I'm sorry, techies: it sucks.) Still, if you want to convert stuff from it, you might get that codec just to ensure that you can get as clear a conversion as possible.
Finally, download fansubs of new (and therefore currently unlicensed) stuff. There are a lot of groups out there right now fansubbing stuff as fast as the Japanese can make it. Some of this stuff (such as Kodomo no Omocha) is so obscure and odd that it might never make it here. My own first AMV, made from Hana Yori Dango, came from www.fumeianime.com's fansubs years ago, and if I remember the release schedules properly, it's *finally* coming out on DVD in the U.S. this month. (Makes me wonder what took'em so long.) That came from the days when fansubs were relatively small, the codecs were not as good, and the frame rates could be a little iffy. These days, many groups make their stuff at least 640 by 480, and they tend to use consistently clear material (using the same framerate)and decent codecs. Makes my own early works look kinda small and grainy by comparison, but oh well.
Also, don't forget that libraries are your friends and that rental places regularly sell their old stuff at a discount. The real cost for anything AMV-related is usually in the hardware rather than the software, but I imagine that in a few more years, the Salvation Army is going to be all but giving away all the equipment that'll be coming its way, and a lot of the old equipment is still quite good. Old vacuum tube moniters are already going for a song in the computer stores now that the flat screens are coming in, and I'll bet in a few years the old computers will be going for ridiculously little too. My old Pentium 133 was the top of the line when my family got it, and I think that particular model's going for about $5 on E-bay right now. (I also got a lot of stuff from my techie brother when he got some new equipment for himself.)
In short, shop around. I've been able to get by on people's castoffs, and if you've got a semi-decent computer, some patience, and an internet connection, you've really got everything within reach that you need to make an AMV.

Uh, no. Many of those are your choice, or just whining - "What if I want to use anime like MKR" is your choice, and as such you can shut up and put up, or you can do what you have to do to get what you want.In conclusion... I'm screwed.....
Basically you just want to whine about how you're screwed, wah wah. In which case, psychotherapy.com is down the hall. Thanks for stopping by.
