Dirk_Temporo wrote:*waves hand in air* Hello? I never said anything about being too young to work. I'm in High School in a town that has 6,000 people. There's nowhere to work anywhere near me. I had a summer job but it was an hour's drive away. I'm almost 16 and can get my license but my mom won't let me drive unless I get straight A's. So I DO actually have a problem.

Oh and all the money I made at the summer job is either going towards driver's ed, insurance, or video games.

Thanks to burntoast for the name's of free ripping software.
You might wanna put off videogaming then.

49.99 video game = 2 dvds.

Yeah. I'm not using my age as an excuse. Or rather, I do, but I will buy things in 2 years when I can legally get a job, I don't want to sweat my ass off mowing lawns all day.

NME put it best.

5 Dollars + 5 Dollars = 10 Dollars.

OH MY GOD. I SEE A PATTERN. Money adds up.

Just a couple viable options for source material....

Rent the dvd's from blockbuster or another video store (at least your paying a little for them)
Join an anime club in your local area and make friends with someone who has a huge anime collection.
Make videos from newer series than haven't been released to dvd and where fansubs are the only option.
Instead of buying entire anime series just buy a couple of your favourite movies then you have engough source for a video and only pay for one dvd.

Someone posted a mass of links to free dvd ripping, mpeg editing, and compositing software in another thread. I think it was in the Video software section. Ahh here it is:

Check those links out, you'll be hooked up for free, just have to tackle the learning curve.

Indeed, and as for DVDs: as mentioned, rent, or stop buying games.

Also, if you want to get to making AMVs with the fewest disc purchases, go for movies or short OAVs. Lame tip, but it works.

I'm stuck using other people's videos . . . to make mine.
With that in mind, what would you suggest I do?
First of all, cut the crap!

1) any capture card comes with its own Video Editor.
2) most support DVD drives.

at 13,
A paper route pays about $30°° a week.
Washing dishes at some semi organized Cafe loves to hire kids on weekends.
I know people that emptying Ash Tray's in bowling allies. ( concourse boy's )
The elderly often need Percriptions filled but can't get them themselves.
- this list goes on and on ^^

Start with the basic's and go from there ^^
- - I started 10th grade and getting my License with a Brand New Caddi.
- - - - I'm a Lazy Mo-fo and I did it; you can too ^^

Post it is right, there are a good few ways to earn some extra cash to get some $15-20 DVD's (and I suggest you start with free editing software)

And don't take this as an insult, he is just saying that sometimes you can buy stuff bundled for less than if you bought it seperatly.

Also, try to bum a DVD off of any friends that may have anime (not to keep, but long enough to rip and edit with)

Well, sorting throught the psudo-flames, I found lots of useful information. And my mind which has been turned off by two months out of school finally realized, "Hey, my mom is a member of NetFlix. FREE ANIME!"

Now I need to get a DVD player and ripping software for my computer.

Not lame at all.

There's plenty of good anime out there that fits on 1-3 discs, isn't horribly overpriced, and is worthwhile to own in any case.

One disc:
Gunsmith Cats
All-Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku
Armitage III OVA
*A shopping bag's worth of movies, like the Ghibli/Disney stuff.

Two discs:
Macross Plus
3x3 Eyes (one dual disc case)
Oh! My Goddess! OVAs

Three discs:
Key the Metal Idol
Sabe Marionette J
Battle Athletes

This is just an example of what can be done, and for a reasonable amount of money.

Not to take Koopiskeva's talents lightly, but the guy made the current #1 video on this site (by opinion score) with Majix Music Maker, a program that you can easily buy for less than $50 US. That, plus a bunch of freeware you can find out about here, a serious investment of time spent learning how to do stuff on your part, and at least a *little* talent, and you can make a very credible video.

Even Windows Movie Maker is a viable way to start, and that's free, if you have a qualifying OS. (iMovie, if you have a Mac.)

You may also notice a lot of videogame MVs around, which may be an alternative if you already have games like Xenosaga, or FF X.

So, it can be done, for the price of a couple first-release games, and some hard work.

Just sayin'...
My Eyes Are The Victim's Eyes.
My Hands Are The Assailant's Hands.
