hahaha..god this is hilarious. For a while now, it seems like pretty much the whole world (including those in the US) have been all up in arms about the US becoming some Orwellian nightmare with Bush has big brother or some bullshit, but has they all have their backs turned to their own country has they ridicule the US, its their own nations that seem to slowly becoming the orwellian nightmare. How fitting that those who are unable to take responsability for themselves get dragged into a system in which they have no responsability(IE Freedom for those unable to figure out what that word really means). Yeah, I heard someone mention the rising crime rate in Britian now(fastest in any delevoped nation last time I checked). Guess what I heard they plan to do to curb it? PUT CAMERAS EVERYWHERE, SOUND A BIT FAMILAR?

We already have camera's everywhere.
Speed Cameras.

If a little over the speed limit the you have to pay the goverment to save your life.
They thought about the big brother thing but they couldn't make money from that so...

yeah, man. where are you? England uses like in the 10s of thousands CCT cameras all over the place for police work.

even in america, look at the interstates and see if your DOT doesnt have traffic cams posted.

Cardinal.jpg wrote: But a katana doesn't have a legitimate use, its only purpose is to hurt. Of course lots of items have potential for harm but when they have uses that serve a purpose other than killing someone then there is some consideration for whether or not they should be banned. Even knives can be claimed they are being used for hunting but a katana can not realistically be claimed it has a use (when sharp) other than hurting/ killing someone so what place does it have in society. Maybe people can say they cut their bread with it, or slice their fish. Other dangerous items have some consideration before a banning, like guns for hunting or knives for whatever purpose but a katana has no excuse except display in which case it may as well be blunt.
so display is not a legitimate purpose? Archeology? Historian? collector? exhibitor?

this conflicts with your other words:
Well I don't agree with prohibiting items which may cause someone to think killing is alright because it is not these items which do the damage. There should be a stronger education around killing and injuring (that it is bad) from early on. It should be people not killing because they don't want not because they are scared to, because there will always be people who don't care about punishment....
then why ban the thing at all? Why punish those who are abiding by the law by restricting them even more?
As for psuedo facists, just because they are banning weapons doesn't really make them a horrible government. Even if banning these things does make them somewhat facist it isn't particulalry detrimental to our society.
the ban wont make the items harder to come by, therefore it only hurts the innocent. the criminals will still have access to them if they want. that makes it facist. making laws that serve no provable purpose (or even some provable ones)other than to restrict the freedom on the individual is facist expansionist socialist goverment.
Just because a lot of harm may not have been done does not mean it should not be banned. Do we always have to take reactionary measures, must we wait till the tragedy is large before we consider things dangerous? People will complain now but see how much the shit hits the fan when their son or daughter gets killed.
writing a law in a book is hardly a reactionary measure. thats akin to a UN resolution against Saddam for France.

How likely are you to get slashed to death by a katana? Probably a lot less likely than being hit by a car. Legitimate uses aside, more people have probably been injured and killed by kitchen knives.

More people have probably been hurt by Catholic priests, emotionally, mentally, and physically, than have been killed by katanas. Do you want to ban the Catholic church?
