No competition, really. I never had a solid concept of what I wanted to do...always a mistake in this business (well, almost always). When it comes to the point where you're just hacking clips together, it's time to step back and think it through again.ErMaC wrote:Ooooooooo you had a video idea for flaming june, too? Heh, guess I had competition in that idea market. I've had FJ sitting in my "Potential Vid Music" directory for like a year. One of my alltime favorite trance anthems.
Flaming June is a challenging piece. It has 4 or 5 sections with distinctly different emotional "states". Difficult to match those with video and still have a composition that flows as one.

Actually I like the HHC Remix because it's a much more organic and soul-ful sound, plus it's also more consistant in tone. Were you just gonna use the album version of Movement in Still Life? Er wait, which album was the original on? Ah no it was on ESCM, that's right. That one like speeds up and stuff and almost turns into jungle-ish tempo, would be hard to do a video to that.

Say TaranT, I couldn't agree with you more, Kevin Caldwell's AMV "Believe" is done to a trance like song, any who say's it isn't and say's something completly different is wrong, and why is it that that "Silence" AMV has the artist "Sarah McLaughlin" it should be Delerium(Ft. Sarah McLaughlin) - Silence(Airscape Mix) but owell...

"Believe" is a trance-like song, but it is not trance. First off it lacks any sort of melodic lead - the vocals are even monotone. Trance is usually characterized by a particular melodic and/or vocal hook which is given presence over a baseline and drum pattern, as such this has a vocal hook but it is non-melodic leading the song towards classification as Techno. I suppose if you stretched the definition of Trance a lot you could include Believe, but I would not personally due to it's lack of a melodic lead or any anthemic quality.

Yeah, I was using the original from ESCM (after trimming the ends). The same version is on his recent R&R cd; he uses it to close the set on the second cd.ErMaC wrote:Actually I like the HHC Remix because it's a much more organic and soul-ful sound, plus it's also more consistant in tone. I tried to find something on Franka Potente's Web site about "Believe", but couldn't see anything. Of course the site is in German, but I do know a little...German, that is. I think I'm going to agree with ErMaC on this one: trance-like, but not very melodic. Maybe a generic "techno" or "electronica" label will have to do.

There are many remixes of "Silence", but you're right, the original is by Delerium. I've been listening to them ever since they changed their sound with the 1994 cd, Semantic Spaces.

There's also the standard CD single/vinyl version. That one's like the one on ESCM but it doesn't mix in between songs, and it doesn't speed up at the end. Then there's the BT & Paul Van Dyk remix, the Chicane remix (which I absolutely love, my favorite version but not good for a video, because it's all about cool breakbeats), the HHC Remix, the Lemon D remix, the John Gallen mix, the BBE Club mixes - I think Flaming June is one of the MOST remixed trance pieces of all time. My faves are the Chicane and HHC remixes, but the PVD and the original are all good. I actually like the jungle-ish part of the version that's on the ESCM original, I in fact used it as the background music for my Radio show trailer, which sadly I can no longer find on my site ^_^ it must be on my home computer somewhere.

Yeah I figured that it wouldn't be trance sometimes it can be very difficult to tell which is trance, dance, progressive, house, electronica, and well etc. from there... I would probably have to see more vids like "believe" to see which one is the best, i've already started to d/l some of the ones that were posted.. say can anyone tell about how many or what percent of AMV's have music of that of the electronic/dance genre music???

No clue, but I don't think it's that much. Not unless Linkin Park is electronica (OK, bad joke!).djmasterx wrote:...say can anyone tell about how many or what percent of AMV's have music of that of the electronic/dance genre music???

I'll have to look for that Chicane mix; I have all (most?) of their CDs. It was some of the first trance I listened to. Although Ayla would have been first if it had been easier to get that one CD they (Ayla) have released.
