true but obsidian is more commonly known as volcanic glass.. not a rock as such. It's called obsidian because it's generally black but can be brown or red. It forms from a rhyolitic magma if I remember correctly. Not necessarily smooth.. if it's fractured it can be quite sharp and irregular, it's only smooth because it's frozen lava essentially. It's the reason that when people walk over cooled lava flows it sounds like their walking on broken glass... cos they are.

and as to the question... I dunno, I've seen RahXephon and I can't recall it. Still remember..*spoilers*

Ayato's memories have been altered so it's probably still a reference to memory as Rubyeye said.

*end spoilers*

O.O wow..... I bow to your great and extensive knowledge of rocks minerals and volcanic glass ::bows:: I took earth science 2 years ago... I forget everything in the timespan of two minutes..

Generally, i was just stating that obsidian is an "igneous rock" . I'm not sure if they have a classification called "igneous glass" but hey, you're still smarter than i am.

Thank you for your clarification on my poor knowledge of Earth Science.

As a completely unrelated aside, regular glass is actually semi-liquid and will over time 'flow' to the bottom of a window frame.

sorry
I didn't mean to make you feel bad or anything. I'm in the middle of my last year at uni and you guessed it majoring in geology/chem. The lure was too great for my feeble self control and I just had to post.
Anyway "igneous rock" is correct but it's just not the best way to describe it. It just barely scrapes in under the IUGS (international union of geological sciences) classification and has it's own little table separate from the rest of the igneous rocks. And yes "igneous glass" is a term/classification.

Yeah glass can be classified as a supercooled liquid rather than a solid. It has the atomic structure of a liquid but doesn't act like one. Glass and liquids are distinguished on the basis of viscosity (how fast they flow).

And now this nerd is finishing up... start talking about anime people!

Its like in Blade runner, the Unicorn idea, at the end theres that paper unicorn in the lift/elevator........ which has a lot to do with dream/memories\ (same thing really)

Little rude gesture, like thumbing your nose, I believe. There's a name for it that I can't remember.

As for the butterflies, I read somewhere that butterflies are associated with death or spirits in Japanese culture - anyone have backup for that? Just curious.

He dreamt... He dreamt he was a butterfly flying carelessly in the breeze. He flew around and enjoyed being the butterfly so much that he couldn't remember if he was dreaming of being the butterfly, or if the butterfly had been dreaming him......

Or something like that. It is from an old story. There are multiple references to this story in anime, including in RahXephon (see ep 11), Cowboy Bebop the Movie, and I think I remember one other but it escapes me at the moment. Can't remember the guy's name in the story right now. I'll post the name later.
