She warned me about Marilyn Manson and NIN, and how bad they are when I was 10 or 11 years old, and I've taken her advice since then. And I'm not 13, I'm 17, so I'm STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL! Rock isn't supposed to be about depression and suicide, it's supposed to be about partying, having a good time, love, and some other stuff. My mother has a good vision on certain things. While I'm sure she doesn't like EVERYTHING I like, she still thinks I have good taste. I wanna be an caring and loving person that wants to grow to be an old man and go to heaven when he dies, I don't wanna be some heroin addict that listens to garbage like Manson, Tool, NIN, Fear Factory, etc.
There is nothing wrong with respect. I respect the hell out of my parents for putting up with my brother and I's crap for the past 27 years. Hell long after we've both moved out they still put up with us for who knows what reason. But my respect for my parents does not mean I'm going to use their opinion on my tastes in any argument as it's not relevant, as nice a person as your mom might be, her opinion doesn't mean dick here.
High school eh? You go to public school?
The kind of music you like does not change who *YOU* are, you can be all the loving and caring person you want to be while rocking out to Manson, or NIN, or whatever other Industrial, hard rock, stuff you want.
When the international coalition of Rock comes by and makes you the international rock czar, perhaps then you can comment on rock is
supposed to be about, until then you have your opinion, and quite franky it's rather sad of you to believe that you somehow
know what rock is about especially since it has existed much longer than you have.
I must be behind, I listen to alot of those bands, and ones like them, and by god I haven't had my obligatory heroin addiction.

Be yourself, dont be your mom, she made her decisions in life, now it's time to make your own.
