It doesn't hit just dialup users, you were misinformed. I was talking to Farlo, Deaths_aly and a few other people, some had highspeed, all of them had the worm...
One of my friends has it, and told me what it does, it attacks the registry, archives and temp stuff, so you could be screwed if you don't catch it in time!

My girlfriend got it..
She got hit pretty hard, I researched how to kill it but it was difficult to teach her how when she kept getting D/C
she's on Broudband btw.
I know of a few people who got hit.
I found a security patch for XP to get rid of the vunerablity (apparently)
http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/microso ... 86-ENU.exe
But, if its too late heres a address for a fix http://www.wn.com.au/nic/FixBlast.exe
It seems the guy that made it thinks he's some sort of hero. He put a message in the virus something along the lines of accusing Microsoft of to busy making money to fix their software.
Sure mate, thats so noble to fuck up everyone's machine so some millionaire will say, 'oh well, lets create a patch'

Oh yeah, something else that's really stupid about all this -- a lot of people don't need to have port 135, or, for that matter, ports < 1023 open to the outside world. And yet they do. Even XP's built-in firewall can handle the basic task of closing off ports...I still don't understand why people don't at least use that.
just some rants from me, who is amazed that even after ILOVEYOU, Melissa, and Code Red, people are still this lax about computer security...

I thought you used Linux, trythil. In which case it doesn't concern you.
My sister's comp got it, and since I run creaky ol' 98 I hadn't bothered to read up on it and wasn't much help at figuring out that it was Blaster after all... her housemate ended up getting the patch from his IRC hangout by logging on 60 seconds at a time between restarts. That, I have to admit, would be kind of funny to watch from the other end.

Wow I suddenly fee even better about having 98. Hah!
No XP for me, I'm considering douing a dual-boot 98/Linux though.
Funny thng - when my compute suddenly shut down at 4:15 on thursday, I actually thought it was the worm. However, that was not the case....

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Worms concern everybody. The amount of traffic that widespread worms generate put unnecessary strain on networks that all platforms use, regardless whatever or not systems are infected. Code Red was a great example of this.
I do run a couple of Windows XP systems, which have no trace of Blaster, and are patched anyway. However, when the school year starts up again, I'm positive that at least one person will bring the worm back to the school network. It won't affect my system directly, but it will clog the campus network up until it's isolated and removed.
