lol i like yoru photoshoped avatar ... lol he looks like Frog a little ... and the point ... i think it's that frip hated the notion of becoming too popular, or famous and what it did to people ... both aspects of the negative side .. such as famous people have a tendancy to become ass holes ... and famous people can't live normal lives ... i think ... now maybe i'm jstu making shit up ... or leaving massive holes ... and i knew i was going to be the last post ... i won't have it anyother way ... i will kill this thread ... i don't know why but i will ...

No, actually, it's the other way. Fripp (who is not my avatar, however) is what one would classically describe as an asshole Or, as he would say - 'has an unpleasant nature and dislikes people'. However, this isn't really true.
Fripp's hatred of the notion of celebrity comes from a simple fact - it takes away from the two most important elements in art - the integrity of the artist and of the audience. If the artist is concerned mostly with showing off and pleasing the fans, he/she becomes distracted from the actual art and thus loses integrity. If the audience is concerned with the artist's private life, or with receiving autographs or taking pictures, they become distracted from the actual art and thus are incapable of truly perceiving it.
In other words, in the culture of celebrity, art is lost - because both parties are too preoccupied fetishising the peripheral elements of art to care about the core of the art itself.
As a musical artist, Fripp dismisses this completely. In the usually-colourful world of rock performance, he has always remained reasonable, quiet and concentrated, sitting on a stool in an unlit area of the stage, having minimal contact with the audience in all ways except music. At times, a single [photographer's] flash during the performance is enough for him to walk off stage altogether. All you get to see is the sinister profile of this mostly static man playing some of the most terrifying music in the world.
