you, like most people, only know of mainstream bands.

I know 100 diffrent bands that are DEPENDANT on CD sales. CD cales make a difference to some bands.

You'd be surprised how much money a cd sale can help. Do you know why Good Charlotte is so rich? It's because they were small and no one knew who they were when their Cd "The Young and The Hopeless" came out. So they're still making the profit off of CD sales that they were when the cd released. And obviously, they're selling a lot of CDs.

Sure they're rich now, but there are other bands out there like them, that arn't selling lots of cDs, and could use the support to help them get there.

I know a lot of bands personally, and there are a lot of bands I respect. I'm not going to sit there and let some one rip my good friends off.

People tend to assume that record labels make all the money off CD sales, it's not true. Or if they do believe the band makes money, they assume if a band has a CD in a record store they must be rich by now, and don't need the money.

CD sales HELP a lot of bands, and I won't stand by and watch best friends get fucking ripped off.

you assume too much sometimes.

First of all, i don't just listen to mainstream bands, exspecialy not modern mainstream bands. Sure i don't know of as many bads as you do ... but thats not that important.

Second of all, i am in no way opposed to buying a cd, infact i refuse to copy an entire elbum as a suplemnt to buying a cd. I'll burn an entire album to replace a lost bought cd (i had to do this for Tool - Undertow ... some ass hole took my cd player with that cd in it ...) But i do liek making my own burnt cd mixes.

I prefer to buy cd's, it looks much better in my cd wallet the seeing 50 cd's tha tlook exactaly the same and say "Sony CD-R" on them. And when you buy the CD's you can get allkinds of interesting extras, ie, enhanced cd's (though i'm yet to find a good one), interesting CD bookelt art (Hint: RadioHead), and theres also the pride, or whatever teh name of tha tfeling is, you get fomr knowing you have helped suppsort some one's dream.

and my first post was a reply to Graylisk's first psot that started the thread

yes they are ... i know that ... that was the example i was using though ... somone stole my cd player and that cd was in it ... then i burned myslef a new copy to replace the bought copy ... theres no way in hell that can be considered tool's an underround band ... exspecialy the undertow album.

Well, burning CDs is not bad, not buying CDs is bad.

I drive into downtown Dallas like 10+ times a month, taking my 5 thousand dollar Cd book into town with me does not appeal.... =/

I have a second book I keep in my car that just has burns. If it gets stolen, it's like a $30 loss.

I don' tkeep my big cd wallet with me either ... when i go to school i usualy bring my small 6 cd wallet, which is normaly half full or more with bunrt cd's. Carrying that many cd's with you on person is just stupid ... yoru asking for tehm to be stolen ...

That must be a big CD wallet or a lot of rarities. Even at a whopping $50 a CD you still need 100 CDs, not that many I admit but couldn´t you just take less CDs with you. I understand taking burnt CD with you, I myself had a full wallet taken from me worth $600Au and I was pretty pissed but it also made me realise that maybe I shouldn´t carry as many CDs around, how many could I possibly listen to in the time I am away.

And on a side note, why do you feel it neccesary to always point out your connections to bands and to make sure other people know that you listen to less mainstream shit than most other people. I don´t think you have to reiterate any of these points anymore, nobody here doubts anymore that you are quite clearly more sumpreme in your personal attachments to bands than anybody else here so please stop saying so it is getting quite repetitive.

The fact that it was like that explains it but before that was said I couldn't even think a book to hold that many CDs could exist.

Dude, let me re-iterate.. they weren't selling little knpown bands or small-time shit.

The first thing in their binder was the Bad Boys 2 soundtrack, for crying out loud.

And also, burning CD's isn't bad, but you can't go and SELL the damn copies to make money! That's just wrong on so many levels!
