Where does the church get $55mil?
Looking at this story, which explains how the Boston Archdiocese is offering to shell out 55mil to victims of sexual abuse from the church. I find it odd how this damn church has 55mil to just blow on some preists little rape runs. It's very, very annoying.
This is 55mil that could have been better spent on other things, such as helping poor people or renovating churchs or sponsoring activies. Instead, because some preists who wouldn't keep their penises out of children, that 55mil is going to the victims. I believe the victims have every right to the money, but the point is it should have never come to this point in the first place.
Further more the preists are being "internally investigated" from within the church. Which basically, the acussed is being judge & jury to themselves. What makes these people above the law? Also the church has proved that it's failed to protect children in the past. Putting preists who have been known to molest children back in a family oriented enviroment with children around so they can just do their deeds again. It's almost like the church wants this to happen and thinks it's their right. That 55mil is for over 500 clergy sex abuse cases and they expect more!
Where exactly is this money coming from? Most likely donations I am guessing. Oh and that "tax-exempt" status sure helps alot. What is it? A government and publicly funded kiddie molestion center? That's what it sounds like. Why aren't people demanding to take all these people out of commision, every last one of them. Anyone who had any chance to stop this should be fired and put on trial. Anyone who made a bad judgement, the idiots that appointed the preists back into a enviroment where they could attack again should be fired. Anyone who said "let's keep this a secret inside the church" should be fired and shot in the fucking head.
-_- Ugh...
It's so pointless... These people are raping children and people expect them to bring them the word of the lord. Ugh...

I can't defend the church this time. It is sad really. All that is currently happening is the church is trying to fix it's image by throwing money around. I tend to agree that there is really no place for this kind of thing in society. But people never learn. The world has this overwhelming tendency to disappoint, and seems to be hypocritical of every new reform and idea that spews forth from the governments and the media.
For example, just the other day, I was talking with a friend about a new golf course that was opening just outside of town. Apparently they were limiting membership to white people only. There is absolutely no excuse for that kind of crap in today's *modern reformed* society.
However through all of this we must remember that even though we think the public and society in general are constantly taking one step back for every two steps forward, things like these are more than likely caused by individuals. Bigotted, perverted, or misguided, it is always by individuals. That is why we have to work as a cohesive world community to overcome obstacles such as this. It is only through trials and tribulation of this kind that things will change for the better.
Peace.

Technically, at least in the American legal system, they can exclude whoever they want, so long as the government is not involved in their operation (and they own the property). It's not absolute (i.e. they couldn't turn down a non-white job applicant on the basis of race, at least openly, since doing so can violate equal opportunity employment laws), but if they wish to cater exclusively to white people, then yes, they probably can. Alternatively, a black or Asian or Latino golf club could cater and exclude whomever they want, under the same conditions.Kegger007 wrote:For example, just the other day, I was talking with a friend about a new golf course that was opening just outside of town. Sounds wrong, but that's freedom in America for you.

. . milking the public of every penny that they earn is not what the church was designed for - however well meaning these people may be, an empty bank account usually mean - Poverty.
. things have changed soo much, over the past 40 years, that even I'm begining to understand why the US cut the ties between Church and State!
. Durring the 700's it was Witch Hunts
. Durring the 1600's it was Witch Hunts again T_T
. it seem to me that the one people who should know the word of god are the ones who Don't Know What The Bible Say's.
. in everyones life, we run across times when we hope that there is a real truth to be found - isn't it sad that the church has no answers anymore!

the amassing of a disgusting ammount of welth ... thats almsot as abad as bill gates having more money then Poland. If the church can afford to toss out that kind of money to fix somethign as superficial as it's image in that maner, then why not fix up it's image in a way that actualy matters. Ie, use taht money to bring clean running water to villiages in ethiopia and other rural african areas, or how aobut feeding people? that would be a good start ...

why don't we all give to those needy groups? why do we spend frivolously on these darn computers and video cards, dvd drivers, anime, video games, basically any other sort of luxury. Lets make a good name for humanity, stop spending money to make our lives easier and start helping others making this world a better place
