Photoshop can make anything look better. Even my drawings.

Post by Roke » Sun Aug 03, 2003 2:32 pm

I was bored and somewhat depressed last night/morning, so I decided to scan one of my usual bad drawings. I've recently started to use a sharpie instead of grinding 0.5 mechanical pencil lead into a thick outline, and I figured because of that, it would be much easier to color the picture in because of that.

I spent roughly 2-3 hours on the picture getting the proportions somewhat correct, and still fucked up on some things like the damn tables and that horrible chair in the top corner, and stuff. THEN I spent another three hours coloring it in, and making sure I didn't kill any important outlines. By then, it was 3:00 AM and I began to think that the painting tool actually looked like paint, and thought that looked cool... But then I saw that you could only see that close up. Damn.

Anyway, since their proportions are large I'm going to link to them off site. I'm not saying the picutres are good, just that they're better than most of my shit.

I'm so ashamed of the lines around her body. Plus, I couldn't decide what color for the head hair. Any suggestions?

You kind of revived a small dead topic to say that, but thanks. I think the avatar I made from it looks better from the whole picture, though. (The real bitch in drawing is trying to make them a comic. I hate making panels.)

hehe photoshop is fun.... but the hours just fly by and before you realise it's... morning

suggestions...
have you tried adjusting the levels or brightness contrast so the greyish outlines are really black?
Have you thought of making a duplicate of the background layer, selecting all the white areas and just leaving the outlines, that way you can colour underneath and not worry about obliterating the lines.
Otherwise you could select the area you want (it doesn't matter if you go on to the lines) and select hue/saturation choose colourise and bring up the saturation and down the brightness (so the black lines go black) and voila colour the easy way

meh, I don't know why I bother if you are really interested in any of the above I have some links to tutorials

you did a pretty good job oh photoshopping your picture. I like your style, its sort of different. but you right there are a few proportions that are off, but dont worry too much about it. The more you draw, the better you'll get at it.
