Considering this thread was set up originally as a progressive metal thread, I just assumed thats the topic we would have stayed on.Otohiko wrote:So don't knock prog. Prog (to some) is a lot more than what you see it as.

Otohiko, prog rock isn't quite dead. Most prog-metal fans I know listen to a fair amount of prog rock. I still do, for sure.
And Nailz, I know you love Genesis. And they're prog rock.

Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

Well, I didn't say dead, I said largely dead
Admittedly though, it's not at the height it was back in the old days.
Myself, I'm more a prog rock listener than prog-metal. Still, the metal part of it gets the appropriate respect from me.
I'm just a die-hard Crimhead. We don't really call ourselves prog-rock or -metal fans, we just call it progressive music. Cause we believe it really is progressive. That's why a Crimson fan is bound to get touchy when someone mentions the word 'prog'/'progressive' in an unsavory context.

Today at the Vicarage : DGM Soundworld
11.10 am. "Cage" is finally stomped & squirmed. Punk's digital editing has rescued Pat's electronic bass drum, which was contributing random untimed ghost notes between all the main beats. The Rhythm Buddies are once more united. A KC latin seven feel has descended, with RF on vibes.
12.00 pm. Punk has just proudly asked for a masturbation break. He assures me that new research shows that daily masturbation (cleaning out the pipes) wards off prostrate cancer. Can this be true, I wonder? Ah! The Daily Mail. Now I understand. I shall wait until this article appears in my beloved FT before following suit.
12.15 pm. Upon finishing the masturbation break, Punk began complaining how "All metal sucks, except Whitesnake". What does he know about metal?
12.30 pm. Punk has proposed a new masturbation facility on site, which, among other appointments, is due to feature a 24/7 playback of Whitesnake's recording catalogue. What does he know about masturbation?
6:15pm. Punk has given up on his new project and went home disappointed. Metal has not gotten a break. What does he know about anything?

back on topic....
Apparently I spoke a little too soon.
I've head some of the samples, and it's pretty decent, though a little more like Priest covering Iced Earth rather than the IE sound we've all become familiar with. The vocal lines are obviously written for Matt.
This being said, seriously, what's with these guys nowadays?
* Matt - out
* Larry - out
* Ripper - in-as-guest-and-still-in-shock-from-getting-fired-from-Priest
* Rich Christy - someone said he didn't play on this record
* Jimmy McDonough - never has to show up till it's touring time
The credits on this album are going to look interesting:
Whatever, I'm going to go pulp my head with _Enemies of Reality_ again.

Or something like that. This isn't a band anymore, it's Jon Schaffer and the Morrisound Maulers. Blind Guardian's metal cred may be falling as Iced Earth's rises, but at least their 'band' includes nearly everyone who plays for them (full membership for Olli now!).Iced Earth is:
Jon Schaffer - guitars, bass, backing vocals, mandolin, etc.
Session musicians:
Jim Morris - lead guitars [producer]
Mark Prator - drums
Tim Owens - lead vocals
Whatever, I'm going to go pulp my head with _Enemies of Reality_ again.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.
