Battle Royale

Post by Farmboybob » Wed Aug 06, 2003 2:11 pm

Ok so my friend is bringing over Battle Royale 1 soon and I was wondering what you guys thought about the movie. Please keep spoilers to a minimum.
Thanks.

Also, if you have seen Battle Royale 2, I was wondering if that was good too.
Thanks again.

I don't think the second movie has been released yet.

As for the first, on the surface it seems like a shocker exploitation film, but it seems to have some interesting commentary on Japanese society if you think about it. It's a pretty good movie if you can see past the violence.

Ok thanks kthulhu.

Ok I have some other questions.
1. Is there any nudity in the movie? (if my mom sees any I'm screwed)
2. Does anyone know if Suncoast sells the movie. (If I like it, I may buy it.)

Oh and kthulhu, I checked and I think BR2 was released like 2 weeks ago in japan. I saw the trailer for it and it looks cool.

No nudity that I can recall, but plenty of violence. Not gory, but, you know, seeing teenage kids killing one another isn't a picnic in the park.

Why would your mom be against nudity but not violence?

Because Americans, traditionally, love to fight. They love the sting of battle. But they don't like seeing other people's naughty bits unless they are blowing them asunder while doing it. :?

One of my friends (scottish kid, maybe that's why) has the same problem - his grandparents whom he lives with got no problem with violence, but go ballistic with any nudity/sex. As I hear, his grandma was fine with him watching ninja scroll until she walked in on the rape scene...

Yes indeed, some people do impose fairly bizzare rules on kids.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Well, my mother hates watching violent things, but everyone else in the family loves it, so she gave up trying. But she puts her foot down when it comes to nudity. So I have to be sneaky when I watch something that has nudity.
On a side note, I think my dad is going to love this movie.

There is brief male nudity. Nude corpses that the bitch girl fucked and then killed.. (Killed and then fucked? I don't wanna think about it :P )

I personally love BR and can't wait for the sequel.

BR was a cool, original, different little movie. Worth watching.

Although it obviously loses a lot on the originality score, BR2 looks interesting as they have added a 'paired' system to the already cruel system. Classmates are put in pairs, and if one dies, so does the other. Might add a little more tension to the movie, if Kinji Fukusaku's son can direct as well as his dad did :?

Isn't BR2 on in the cinemas in Japan?
