As EC said is it GROSS or NET?
If it's %25 of NET, that is totally unfair. %25 GROSS may be a bit more fair. But then you run the risk of losing money if it's not popular. Also it'd be nice if you gave a bit more info, such as how many issues would be printed, what your distro channels are? How exactly is this $5K going to be made if all you're doing is shouting on street corners going "GET YOUR JAPANAMATION!"
I think more along the lines of %50/%50 profits. Then you have a better chance of getting your money back and the artist gets a fair deal.
Though you better be damn well sure you can make it make some money, or you atleast compensate the artists in some way. Nothing would irritate them more if they spent weeks/months making this thing and then you turn around and say "Man, I lost $50 on this venture, so you don't get any money". :\
I think they would have a right to kill you at that junction.
