Can I upload cartoon music videos to the donut?
I've read the rules for what can be uploaded at the donut. I can upload anime music videos but is cartoon included in this category. It is afterall the North-American equivalent of anime.

Me too!!
Hello.
Seriously and with all due respect, I find it harder and harder to distinguish. I used to just think that all the ones with big eyes were Anime. But now look at poke-mon. Most people don't consider that Anmie. And some people consider X-Men evolution as Anime, but I don't even though the style is obviously influenced by it.
It's all just very confusing. Can you or anyone please explain what makes an anime cartoon, anime? Are there some properties to look out for? This is very difficult because Disney and others produce very high quality cartoon features and some are targeted for adults (i.e. Space Ghost), but they are not considered Anime, while many “Anime” toons target children.
Does it depend on the artist or director? Is everything a certain director or artist does considered anime, or is their something they do differently when they are working on an anime, than when they are working on a regular cartoon?
By the way, I’ve already uploaded my Cartoon Music videos to the donut. 5 of them are X-Men evolution (anime?), and one is X-Men TAS. Please delete them if they are not within acceptable criteria. In the future just to be safe I am not going to upload anything unless it's targeting only adults and the characters have really big eyes. (I know that's a really crappy definition of Anime, but it's seems to be the only thing that people will not complain about.)
look at how upset some people got over my music videos
Meanwhile I start a topic on “What is Anime” and few people offer their views.

Animation animated in Japan or animated for the Japanese market.
That covers:
anime that is partly animated in korea (lots of anime)
japanese animated works aimed at a US audience (transformers the movie etc)
and excludes US animated shows and the like.
That's all there is to anime. It's not thematic, stylistic or genre based as those things change all the time, even within anime itself.

yeah, anime is definately NOT a genre, it simply has genres within it
but i still think we didn't really answer the question enough (imo)
because for example:
The Lion King is a great american made animated movie, i think most people consider it a movie when they refer to it, and not as a cartoon, wouldn't the lion king make a great drama amv?! in fact, my friend budafuka (don't mind the original name) wants to make an amv with the lion king.
i think it would make a great video, but it's not 'anime' because it's not from japan, shouldn't we just let people consider anime a shortened version of animation (as it should be) and let people use anything that is animated in 2D or animated in 3D in the anime style (as people have defined it)?
....and no this is not necroposting, it's only just over a week, come on people, don't start the hatred, spread the love

Hey,
It's not that we don't think that the Lion King wouldn't make a good video. There are lots and lots of things out there that would make good video material. The point of this site is for a specific style of animation. That style happens to originate from Japan. If the Lion King was done in the same style of animation as the Japanese "anime" style, it would probably be considered "anime" and be allowed. But since the animation styles are different, that movie is not allowed.
I hope this clears it up some. Good luck and have fun!!
Phade.
I think you are confusing "anime" with "animation". "Anime" is a subset of general "animation" and is characterized by a specific style. It's sorta like if you pick up any manga "comic book" and compare it to any American "comic book", you can definitly see a general artistic style difference. You can also see a similar "style" with Pixar's computer animations as opposed to other computer animation houses.Daio Kaji wrote:...i think it would make a great video, but it's not 'anime' because it's not from japan...
