Interesting thing is that the concept of the devil we know of was created by the Jews, the ones that roamed around in the desert..and wrote the dead sea scrolls, before then the devil wasn't in fact depicted as that bad of a guy, an Egyption god was one of the earliest forms of the devil, though he was bad, as in the god of ale and rape (or something along those lines) he was in fact good and needed (in Egyption society anyways as some sort of spiritual guide, he just had a later job in the meantime).
