Indy always got his woman, right? Well the way I look at it, Indy could be in a win-win situation. If he doesn't get the artifact, then he still gets Croft, but if he does, he still gets Croft. At least for one night.

Men can leave women. But women can't leave men. So they'd have to kill off Indy before the end of the story.
He'd be better off not messing with her in that capacity.
