90% of the time the endings have some sort of symbolism hidden in a sea of utter crap, when you find the symbolism you'll get it. Of course, there are those that DON'T end, like berserk and angel sanctuary, and those that are so open ended they are left under close scrutiny, and are open to interpretation, like Eva.

Another movie that had a pretty awful ending was Death & Rebirth. I`m aware that they use it as a sort of preview for End of Evangelion. But I thought I`d treat it as a movie. The movie was pretty good, but it ended a little abruptly. All it did was make me want EoE. I guess that good marketing. I even watched the audio commentary. It shed some light on topics I was confused with, and told me little details of the movie I would have never picked up. The commentary was also pretty funny.

Of course... it could be open ended to inspire discussion...you know... talking with other people about it, since it deals with issues that have been under discussion for ages and ages... you know... long before television...

Nope. I don't see how I can discuss something as complicated as Evangelion with someone who not only saw episode 24 as ending happily, but also finds that discussion on philosophy and psychology is a "sack of shit"

I'm assuming you mean manga.

With the MANY you have read... is there some reason you don't like the endings? Is there an overall theme to the problems you have with the endings? What is it you're looking for in an ending?

I certainly have not read many Manga titles.
Only read Battle Angel Alita to it's conclusion, which I thought was very good.

I am also collecting Ranma 1/2, Gunsmith Cats, Inu Yasha and Oh! My Goddess... but I'm only in the middle of those.

I can really only talk about the endings of the anime titles.

Just thought I'd ask.

For the most part I like all the anime endings I've seen. The only endings I dont like are the ones that don't close of the anime such as Love Hina, Trigun and El Hazard. But just because they aren't good endings in my opinion doesn't mean that they are bad endings.

Best ending Ever: Noir - I've never been so satisfied with an anime ending as I was with this one!

Worst ending has to be a tie with every anime that got cut off half way though the season (i.e. Legend of Basura, Candidate for Goddess, etc.)

Endings I liked (and would like)

Post by skanks » Fri Aug 16, 2002 3:15 am

I did like the endings for Kanon and Rurouni Kenshin Seisouhen. (note don't read any of the manga so i have nothing to compare these things to, i've found people are passionate about mangas) Things I would like to see the end of is DBZ, (will it ever end?) The invincible celerystick like alien is finally defeated by Super Saiyan level 2423 after 3 eposides of him screaming the universe just explodes.

d&r's commentary was great

the first thought that came to my mind when I saw the TV series ending was "damn now I know what they mean when they said 'low budget'"
I mean really, the first sentance of ep 26 are "complementation is taking place, however, there is not enough time to show the entire process, so we will evaluate each of the children" or something like that. The only good part of the TV ending was shinji's perfect world and how pleasantly wrong it was.
EoE on the other hand was GREAT, you know why? The entire TV series you spend forming this image of what third impact and complementation would be like, end didn't dissapoint me in the least. It works perfectly with the rest of the TV series. Not to mention its great to watch when you're depressed cuz you can just be like.. yeah... stuff does suck >_<
