Translating music with subs, your thoughts

I have been kicking around this idea that’s been annoying me for an AMV to a song not in English. and the idea is to make an AMV about what they are singing about and translate it with subs. but not just any old subs, spice it up with some cool text effects or something. What I want to know is would this take to much away from the video its self? I know everyone hates to see subs in an AMV, but what if the subs were in some way incorporated into the anime? I have a few ideas as to go about this, but I don’t want to tell ya just yet, its a secret ^_~

But anyway, I just want to know what people would think about this, and if anyone knows of an AMV that might have already tried this so I can go see what it looks like.

If the subtitles are related to the video, I don't think many of us have too much of a problem with them. Nightowl put the translated and original lyrics for Engel in TriEngel and it worked out pretty well. If the actual content of the lyrics is important to the video concept, I'd say put them in. If the video really doesn't involve the actual lyrics (re: Vic's Shining Collection) then it would probably almost be better to leave them out...

I think that video beat you to your idea, I dont know what langauge the songs in but the creator but subs to the song in the video and it came out pretty good. I say do that video you want to do, and download this one too.

i saw one to XTV with du hast, and I think the subs really detracted from the video

of course i havn't seen the series, and I hardly remember the movie - but i didnt think the lyrics fit the anime too well, which is part of the problem

The more action in the video the more distracting the subtitles are. Engel worked well since it was mostly still images with lip sync. When there was heavy action or an important scene, subs were taken out. Not every moment of the song needs to be subbed (especially if the chorus is repeated over and over).

translating the words are fine if it helps explain the AMV.

unless your Very-Very Good at overlaying Audio + Video + time sync's . you'll distroy the mood quicker than a Guy trying tp please his girl and all she can say is, "oh - I've already got that!"
